MENLYN PARK SHOPPING CENTRE GIVES THE GIFT OF A SMILE Menlyn Park Shopping Centre donates proceeds to Smile Foundation The Smile Foundation had something to smile about this week, when Menlyn Park Shopping Centre handed over a cheque for R180 000. The funds came from the shopping centre’s fantastic gift-wrapping pop-up stores during last year’s festive season. Menlyn Park Shopping Centre created three unique pop-up gift wrapping stores that catered to everyone’s needs. “We really wanted to add something fun and exciting for the whole family at Menlyn Park,” says Olive Ndebele, general manager of Menlyn Park Shopping Centre. Santa’s Workshop entertained the kids, the Craft Workshop catered to the creative shoppers and The Luxe pop-up provided all the pampering you needed. The Smile Foundation was the perfect choice for Menlyn Park to partner with, as children are at the heart of every family. The Smile Foundation is a non-governmental organisation helping children in need of surgery for treatable facial anomalies. They are currently based in 8 Academic Hospitals around South Africa. Smile Foundation invests in the medical teams they work with, through an Academic Skills programme, and assists the hospitals by purchasing equipment for use by the Departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. “The Smile Foundation is so grateful for this donation. The proceeds will certainly be used to continue giving children hope,” says radio DJ Sam Cowen, an ambassador for foundation. Sam visited Menlyn Park Shopping Centre during the festive season, and joined the kids having fun at “Santa’s Workshop” in the mall. “Giving kids their smiles back is the best gift we could give to their parents,” says Olive. The newly renovated shopping centre is now the biggest mall in Africa, with over 500 stores, plenty of parking, and entertainment for the whole family.
