As part of their Employee Volunteerism Initiative, Cell C partnered with Rise Against Hunger Africa on the 12th July to help with the packing and packaging of non-perishable food items. The day’s activities, which took place at the Sandton Convention Centre, are part of the company’s 67 minutes of positively contributing to our communities, in honour of international Nelson Mandela Day.

The food parcels will be distributed, through Rise Against Hunger Africa – a Non-Profit Organisation who’s mission is to end hunger by providing food and life-changing aid to the South Africa’s most vulnerable.

Cell C also went a step further and  donated an amount of R 50 000 to the organisation, to assist Rise Against Hunger Africa to fulfill the much needed role of providing the necessary resources, to alleviate poverty. Cell C encourages employees to voluntarily contribute to the communities they live and work in, whether as an individual or a team.

The theme for this year’s Meal Packing Event was “This is Possible”. Rise Against Hunger International recently launched a campaign, which is in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. More specifically goal number 2, Zero Hunger by the year 2030. The meals packaged are highly nutritious and comprise of rice, soya, dehydrated vegetable mix and a fortification pack of 23 essential minerals and vitamins specifically formulated to combat malnutrition (complying with the UNICEF standard).
