A team of 40 cyclists descended on The Table Bay at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town on Thursday, 5 March 2015 to handover R200 000 in cash to local charities after completing a 1,749-kilometre ride from Sun International’s Sun City in South Africa’s North West Province.

Amongst the cyclists, part of the 13th Annual Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour, was the new Miss South Africa Ziphozakhe Zokufa, who cycled part of the journey with them. They were welcomed by a throng of supporters, including representatives from the benefiting charities.

Initially, R150 000 had been earmarked for handover to the chosen beneficiaries. The Table Bay added a further R50 000 to the amount. Cheques were handed over by The Table Bay’s Human Resources Manager, Candice Sinclair, to the beneficiaries, which included Athlone North Primary School, Nazareth House, Ben’s Bicycles and Masithembele.

In total, the 2015 Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour donated over R500 000 to various charities supported by Sun City Resort, the Flamingo Casino in Kimberley, the Golden Valley Casino in Worcester, and at the Table Bay Hotel.

In addition to donating money and products to charity organizations, the tour also donated bicycles to previously disadvantaged individuals along the way in support of the World Bicycle Relief Organisation.

Over the past 12 years, The Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour has donated approximately R6.5-million to various charity organizations. These include amongst others CANSA, The Sun City AIDS Orphanage Housing Project, Sinothando Children’s Home, the Deaf Institute, Moira’s House, Grace Centre for abused Woman and Children, Nazareth House, and the Saartjie Baardman Centre for Abused Woman and Children.
