Canal Walk’s Family Festive event and increased foot fall helps raise R20 000 for charity

The festive season may have come to an end, but the smiles continue…especially for the Smile Foundation who were the recipients of R20 000 raised from the proceeds of gift wrapping done in the lead up to the festive season. Additionally, all the plush toys that adorned the huge Christmas tree, will also presented to the charity at the end of January which can help put further smiles on young faces.

Each year, COVID-19 restrictions permitting, Canal Walk puts on family-focused entertainment.  As it did in 2020, 2021 saw the centre partner with Disney to provide a crafting station for creative young minds.  Also on site were several Disney themed photo booths to capture all the festive fun and provide memories for years to come, along with Santa Claus himself making a rare in-person appearance.

Canal Walk’s Events Manager, Amanda McCarthy, delighted to see so many happy faces, remarked that: “The season was great, with a more back to ‘normal’ feeling, and a vastly improved foot count from last year (prior to the levels changing on the 28th of December 2020), and the event also exceeded our expectations and projections.

“Customers seemed excited to be celebrating the festivities again, as was seen in the popularity of the Canal Walk train, photos with Santa and the Elfie Selfie photostations. We also hope this augurs well for 2022 – for everyone – as it’s always the best for us when the centre rings with cheer.  We would like to thank all who helped make this a happy event for our chosen charity partner too.”

Canal Walk is also hoping that 2022 will continue with a semblance of normality, so that it can once again stage several other events that have become annual occurrences, such as the always eagerly welcomed theatre production in the middle of the year.

The Inspired by Disney Canal Walk Family Festive Fun Event finishes on 9th January 2022.
