As the eyes of the world focus on the FNB Stadium at Soccer City in Johannesburg for the Global Citizen Concert to share in the celebration of the centenary of former President Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela, an inaugural event being hosted by the House of Mandela Family Foundation, Enhle Cares Foundation and the Africa Rising Foundation will become an annual fundraiser for the charitable work that the Nobel Peace Laureate held most dear.

The Forever Young Ball and Gala Dinner and auction, to be held in Houghton on November 30, forms part of the official Mandela 100 program but will, according to the House of Mandela, be an evening of “stepping into social graces and giving hope”.

The Forever Young Ball and Gala dinner will have a twofold purpose; to celebrate and pay tribute to the legacy of Mandela, as well as via an auction on the night provide a platform to raise funds for food security, community development, empowering women and the youth, and championing social justice issues.

Partners in the event include the House of Mandela Family Foundation, the Enhle Cares Foundation, the Africa Rising Foundation, the Nozala Trust, World Food Program, Lounge Around and Global Citizen and includes a gourmet dinner, powerful stories from participants, awards for honourees, dancing and the auction.

Joff van Reenen of High Street Auctions, who will be leading the fundraising component on the night, says the lots will be extraordinary, including an original colour pastel drawing by the hand of Nelson Mandela himself from the family collection and endorsed and authenticated by the family.

“We hope our guests on the night will open their wallets as widely as President Mandela opened his heart to the world. Among the auction lots will be extraordinary, previously unseen pieces from the Mandela Family collection that are unique and unlikely to ever be offered for sale again in this manner or any other, for that matter.”

Additional details of other lots will be released next week.

The fundraising on the night will comprise a silent auction, Mandela’s Moment of Giving and a live auction to be conducted by Van Reenen.
