It’s Women’s Month and the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is encouraging members of the public to show some love to their female dogs and cats up for adoption.

“If you are without a woman in your life, you can spoil one of our furry ladies instead,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Manager.

The animal clinic’s homeless dogs and cats have lived in their shelter for days, some even months. Some of them have been lucky enough to live in foster homes. By sponsoring a furry lady you can help make their Women’s Month a happy one.

There are a variety of sponsoring options including:

R50 – Get rid of those nasty fleas and ticks – we want cuddles instead
R100 – Have your lady vaccinated to keep her healthy and strong
R200 – Spoil your Love with delicious food for two weeks
R450 – Give your girl great meals for a whole month
R500 – Spay or neuter your lass – love is enough, no babies needed

Donations made to your chosen four-legged girl will help the Clinic to look after them until they are able to find permanent homes.

“The dogs and cats up for adoption have been at our clinic’s shelter facility or foster homes for weeks or months. Some have gone through a lot of trauma needing extra love,” says du Plessis. “Marilyn and Monroe, for example, were handed over as unwanted. We do not know the whole story, but we believe they were misused and overbred from the condition they were in. They were skin and bones and Monroe had ulcers on her legs all the way down to the bone. They are both receiving treatment at our facility and could do with a forever home that will offer them a lot of love and kindness.”

If you would like to sponsor a pet for Women’s Month visit to view all the ladies, contact or make a donation to Mdzananda Animal Clinic, Standard Bank, Account number: 075595710, Branch: Rondebosch, Branch Code: 025009, Reference: Lady’sName +YourName. If you would like to adopt any of them please get in touch.

“We would also like to acknowledge our human ladies (and gents) who work daily and tirelessly to help the animals of Khayelitssha. They are often the forgotten ones, the one’s no one wants to sponsor or hear abou, but without them there would be no help for the thousands of animals we see each month,” says du Plessis.

To honour their female staff this Women’s Month, the clinic’s website and Facebook Page features these ladies’ stories. You can read some of their stories at or on their Facebook page.
