DOUBLE TAKE FOR SURVIVOR PINOTAGE AT MUNDUS VINI WINE AWARDS Survivor Pinotage, the acclaimed Swartland rendition of this proudly South African home grown grape variety, has brought home two Gold medals for consecutive vintages from the 26th Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards in Germany. Excelling at the Spring Tasting of these prestigious awards, Survivor Pinotage 2017 and 2018, already acclaimed wines in competitions on home turf, both garnered Mundus Vini Gold awards. The 2017 vintage made the cut in 2019 as an ABSA Top 10 Pinotage, whilst the 2018 vintage won Double Gold at the 2019 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. Over 7 500 wines were judged in the Mundus Vini Spring Tasting by panel comprising 268 wine experts from 54 countries. “We are elated by the international recognition of our Survivor Pinotage. This latest accolade shows that we are on the right track with our single minded focus to craft site specific wines that express a true sense of place and authenticity,” says head winemaker Ben Snyman. Meticulously crafted from 100% Swartland Pinotage grapes, both the 2017 and 2018 vintages are a hearty expression of ripe prune, plum and juicy cherries complemented by elegant notes of spice and cedar. The wines were matured for 15 months in a combination of new and older French oak barrels. Survivor takes its name from the tale of a hardy Nguni cow that jumped off an open truck, landing with just a few scrapes and bruises in the middle of a Swartland vineyard. A metaphor for brave choices, the story of the Nguni cow continues to inspire this intrepid wine range. The award winning Survivor wines can be purchased online at a cellar door price of R185 per bottle from https://shop.overhex.com/collections/survivor-wines/ or from selected outlets countrywide.
