A New Wine Award With a Difference

Welcome to the first South African wine competition judged solely by a panel of South Africa’s Top Sommeliers, in categories moulded around that of a “wine list”.

What makes us different….?

The Sommeliers Selection is young, fun, plugged-in, and targeting the everyday wine drinker through new and innovative ways, including a strong social & traditional media campaign, clever posters that engage the public at all wine retail outlets, neck tags and bold stickers on every winning bottle.

Although The Sommeliers Selection is fresh, new, and different we are serious about wine and guarantee the highest standard of audited judging criteria will be applied.

Categories include amongst others, house wines, fresh crunchy whites, voluptuous rich reds, stickys, a beer category, ciders and international wines.

Within each category, the judges will award a Wine By the Glass Trophy, which will look for the best, most dynamic wines available on the market.

Entries will be judged for their food appropriateness and their gastronomical relevance. The judges will look at stylistic approach to wines, regionality and price points. All wines will be blind tasted by the sommeliers. We welcome a diversity of vintages in every category

The wines, beers and ciders will be blind judged by leading members of the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) as well as an associate sommelier judge.

The South African Sommeliers on the panel all have extensive local and international judging, and work, experience. Their in-depth knowledge of international and local markets and what the public are looking for in their drinking wines, or pairing it with food is unparalleled.

Entries are already open and close on 8 May, with the judging taking place from 3 to 5 June 2015. The awards ceremony will take place on 19 June 2015.

Public tastings will be held at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa (19 June) and Brooklyn Mall (26 June), respectively. Tickets to these tastings can be purchased directly from Webtickets (www.webtickets.co.za) at a cost of R150 per head, which includes your entry and tasting of the winning wines.
