Wine tourism award launches and calls on consumers to vote for their favourite winelands venue.

The Klink Awards honours the very best in South African wine tourism. From the greenest estate, to the coolest festival, to the hippest haute cuisine, The Klink Awards celebrates it all. Launched in 2012 by Wine Tourism South Africa – marketers and publishers of the must-have travel guide The Wine Tourism Handbook – it invites local wine lovers, foodies and intrepid travellers to vote for their favourite things to do in the Western Cape Winelands.

It works by sharing 79 nominees chosen by a panel of independent industry experts with the public online, through Facebook and twitter; then they vote for their favourite 16. In November, winners will be revealed at The Klink Awards ceremony.

Monika Elias, The Klink Awards founder says, “South Africans are spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do. We have among the best beaches in the world, hotels and restaurants that rival many Riviera’s and food & wine that is unquestionably world-class. With so much option and quality on tap, this makes you – the wine lovers and intrepid travellers – the perfect judge to rate and review the wine industry’s tourism endeavours.”

Spice4Life were fortunate enough to join a group of wine lovers on a trip to the Constantia Winelands. We started at the City Sightseeing Cape Town Tour Office where we hopped on the red bus to Constantia Nek  where a tasting of bubbly from Steenberg 1682 was waiting for us. We were then transported to Groot Constantia on the Wine Tour Bus with the Constantia Wine Route Map in hand.

The afternoon started with a tasting from Klein Constantia and food and wine festival experience with the Buitenverwachting restaurant and other Constantia Wine Route nominees. This was followed by delectable cheese and wine tastings with Eagles Nest and Beau Constantia and canapés from Bistro 1682.

Voting closes on 31 October so as to give Klink a few days to crunch the numbers and find out who its 16 winners are as well as the overall Supanova “aka the one wine-related experience that trumps all others with regards to its total votes, popularity, ingenuity and innovation!” explains Elias.

Cast your vote Klink’s website or through its Facebook or Twitter feeds.

All 17 Klink Awards winners will be revealed on 13th November at an event attended by the who’s who in the wine and tourism industry.
