We all crave sweet things from time to time and we usually crave these sweet things in excessive amounts rather than eating with moderation. Below are 7 ways that you can kick the bad habits and get your fix in a healthy way.

1. Eat a tiny bit of the thing you are craving – if you are craving chocolate then eat a mini snickers bar or cut your chocolate bar into smaller pieces. If you are craving baked goods then have one biscuit only.

2. If you are the type of person that cannot stop at just one then a good idea is to mix the unhealthy with something healthy. For example, you can mix chocolate in with nuts and eat a handful of this. You can take a banana and eat this with yoghurt and chocolate shavings for a healthy banana split.

3. Chew a stick of gum when you get a craving for sweet things. You get so many different flavours of gum these days there is one out there for every sweet craving. Make sure that you are having full meals though when you do this, you don’t want to destroy the lining of your stomach with too much gum chewing.

4. Fruit is a winner at kicking sugar cravings. If you enjoy eating fruit then often this can be a good substitute.

5. Eat blocks of dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate and slowly upgrade the percentage of cocoa in the chocolate bars you buy. The darker it gets, the purer and the less sugar there is.

6. Drink a glass of water – putting something in your tummy will keep the cravings at bay

7. Sniff vanilla essence – this sounds strange, but it works!
