Decorex Cape Town promises a fresh new look at décor, design and the rise of the craft movement this year.

The size and influence of Africa’s leading décor, design and lifestyle exhibition is certainly growing every year, demonstrating Decorex SA’s vision of offering both members of the public as well as trade visitors a comprehensive showcase of both local and international décor and design.

“When we launched 100% Design South Africa alongside Decorex Joburg last year, it was the first signal that Decorex SA was moving up a level,” says Sian Gutstadt, General Manager of Decorex SA and 100% Design South Africa. “This year sees the launch of a conference and networking business exchange for our trade visitors. We look forward to introducing the mother city to the new mood at Decorex Cape Town 2015.”

Decorex Cape Town takes place at the CTICC from 24th to 27th April. Here’s a look at what are sure to be the highlights of this year’s show:

Decorex Cape Town launches the first Creative Business Exchange workshop – a half-day conference workshop sponsored by Caesarstone and aimed at individuals and small businesses in the interior design, décor, architecture, product and craft sectors. The forum carries CPD credits for both interior designers and architects and will feature some of Cape Town’s leading designers in the speaker line-up.

In the Designer Spotlight this year is one of Cape Town’s most celebrated interior designers, Sarah Ord. The colour wizard is collaborating with Home Fabrics and will be using some of their most luxurious fabrics by Designers Guild and Christian Lacroix to showcase her signature style.

The Themed Feature will be by another designer firmly entrenched in the Mother City’s style echelons is Marcelle Crowther who owns award-winning Hocus Interior Design Studio. For her keenly anticipated Themed Feature installation, Crowther will be working her designer magic according to an all-black theme, in line with the chosen palette for this year’s exhibition: ‘Black is the new white’.

This year Decorex Cape Town is themed “The Home of Great Ideas”, with a focus on ensuring that visitors leave the exhibition armed with tons of inspiration for making home improvements. Look out for the signs pointing to the ideas and you won’t be disappointed.

The Craft & Create pavilion at Decorex Cape Town is set to be an artisanal marketplace featuring smaller designers, crafters and start-up exhibitors who are busy breaking into the world of décor and design. This is where visitors will find limited edition, affordable pieces to take home with them. Traders will be drawn chiefly from Cape Town and surrounds, so this is likely to be a thoroughly local affair.

Some will recall that last year saw the launch of 100% Design South Africa, alongside Decorex Joburg in August. The 100% Design South Africa team will be giving Capetonians a sneak peek into what to expect this year, with an exclusive installation at Decorex Cape Town, called 100% Black. It’s not only this season’s hottest décor colour, it’s also simply the only way to appreciate great design. Look out for this design feature, curated by 100% Design SA programmes director Cathy O’Clery.

As usual, Decorex Cape Town will be showcasing the latest interior and design trends in a series of feature projects: At the Private Property Trend House featuring American Shutters products, Cape Town designers will demonstrate the latest trends in home décor. In the Franke “Make it Wonderful” Kitchen Design Project, kitchen trends come under the spotlight. And in Beautiful Boudoirs, a host of interior experts will be showing us just how stylish dreamy sanctuaries for slumber can be.

Decorex Cape Town always includes an interactive feature and this year the Dining and Entertaining Theatre has added a new feature to the lineup of cooking demos, which will provide fun home-entertaining talks and cooking demos by a host of engaging local chefs, all presented from a beautiful all purpose-built kitchen by Stockhome Kitchenliving Look out for the series of interactive styling and table décor sessions in the dining room set adjacent to the theatre.

Spotlight on Talent is a corporate Social Investment-inspired showcase of the top talents at Inscape Design College, giving three of Inscape’s most promising third-year students the opportunity to showcase their stand-out design talents, with the Decorex Cape Town platform giving them the opportunity to gauge the market-suitability of their products.

And when you need a break, or need to meet a friend, make a note to relax in one of these delicious Decorex Cape Town restaurants: The sophisticated Graham Beck Wine Bar, styled by Léan van der Merwe Interiors in association with Home Fabrics will be a space where visitors can linger over a plate of sushi or a cheese platter washed down with a flute of Graham Beck’s Brut and Game Reserve Range.

The Consol Gourmet Food Market offers ravenous shoppers a vast choice of delicious meals, with the option to be served in Consol glassware. A truly inspirational showcase displaying the diversity and unique ways of serving food in glass. And, for those who prefer to shop until they drop and just need a grab-‘n-go latte or something decadent, the Decorex Bistro is the go-to refueling station for delicious coffees and delicacies.
