Design your Life

Decorex Cape Town ended on a high note yesterday (Monday 28th April 2014) and was widely described as one of the ‘most beautiful shows ever’. Thousands of visitors came through the CTICC doors over the Freedom Day long weekend to see the latest décor, designs, home products and ideas – all presented under one roof.

The theme of this year’s exhibition was Design your Life, focusing on the rise of individual style, and featured many new elements including the preview pavilion of 100% Design South Africa that takes place alongside Decorex Joburg at Gallagher Convention Centre in August this year.

Opening the show was the Design and Trends Forecast, presented by Caesarstone and featuring trend guru Dion Chang, a hot off the presses report back from Eurocucina plus a decor trend report from FranklinTill Design Studio. Caesarstone was certainly the star of the show, staging Decorex SA’s first flash mob that brought kitchen section of the exhibition to a standstill on Saturday afternoon.

Other highlights included the best of Cape-based handmade goods in the Craft pavilion plus many of the Cape’s leading interior designers, including Greg Mellor in the Decorex Designer Spotlight with fabric house St Leger and Viney as well as Muizenberg mavericks Bartel van Vuuren and Liezel Fourie of Sobeit Design Studio who were the natural choice to interpret individual design at the entrance installation. Adriaan Lochner was a true crowd pleaser with a stand featuring hand painted wallpaper.

Belgotex floor coverings brought together another group of designers at the BelgotexTrend House, including Wellington interior designer Marcia Reader, modernist Stefan Frylinck of Space for Life, Stellenbosch bedroom experts The Room plus Cape Town newcomer Emma de Crespigny of Galerie C20.

The Manscapes installation, featuring surfer champion Dene Botha and fashion designer Craig Port teamed décor and lifestyle brands to create their dreamoutdoor space. Visitors were invited to vote for their favourite Manscape and Decorex Cape Town will be making a cash donation to a charity selected by the winning personality.

Decorex Cape Town was also the Cape visitors’ first opportunity to view the Plascon 2014 colour palette and at the Dion Wired Design Your Life Theatre coffee, cooking and baking demonstrations were put on four times a day. A variety of refreshments were on offer at the KWV Gourmet Market, the Graham Beck Unwined Bar and Café Chic.
