New Year, new beginnings… It’s that time to clean up that space; store your keeps and prepare your space for the New Year.  I am definitely not one for ornaments, or should I say ‘dust collectors ‘and if something is not functional, then I chuck it!  With the items you want to keep, prepare yourself to stack and store them away and keep it tidy.  Most importantly, always remember:  A clean; neat and tidy home will always equal for a clearer and less stressful environment and peace of mind.

There are many storage solutions that are available that we can use.  Below are some key ideas that I like that will help keep your space together without it looking too cold, but having a functional environment that is not an eye sore in your home.

For those contemporary lovers, the ODE collection is a fantastic solution for any room in your home or office.  Their range includes floating TV units; shelves; desks; boxes and drawers.  All the items are designed as floating units, which adds to create an open lighter feel in a room.  What I love about their TV units with an added wall panel, is not only does the floating shelf hide your equipment but the panel hides all the wiring too.  New to their collection is The Winkbox; this floating draw is the perfect solution for charging any of your gadgets.  It has a wire manager system on the inside and a floating top which hides all your gadgets and wires when closed, this also doubles up as another shelf; smart desk or bedside unit.

Your good old baskets & fun boxes will always be a winner.  These have always been an easy and inexpensive solution to use for storage and will work in any space.  You can stack or place under desks; dressing tables; vanities; shelves and inside cupboards too to create a clean and organised look in your home.

Go off the wall with hooks, and hang your storage item or any loose items that are lying around.  There are now a range of funky hanging solutions that are available on the market.  If you are mad and a collector of handbags, then why not create yourself a feature wall close to your changing area, by simply knocking in some hooks and hanging your favourite handbags off them!

Invest in ottomans and large funky trunks, these practical furniture items are great for TV rooms; playrooms and any bedroom.  They can act for a great coffee table and you can still store your items.  A boxed ottoman at the end of a bed is perfect for storage of your extra linen.

Short of book space in a bedroom?  Use the area allocated for your headboard to create a wall storage unit, around your headboard.  Divide up the space for books; photos and other ‘knick-knacks’.  Create a recess on either side of the bed for pedestals and install built-in reading lights with adjustable arms.
