With more than 300 exhibits, the exhibition at the CTICC is part of the successful Decorex SA portfolio that is Africa’s largest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition. We’ve rounded up some of the highlights to look forward to at Decorex Cape Town – don’t miss this annual update of all that is beautiful, inspiring and informative when it comes to home décor and design: Sobeit Studio Designs Your Life. The theme of this year’s show is “Design Your Life” – reflecting the current trend towards finding the décor and design style that suits you, rather than slavishly following fashion. What better team to interpret this theme than committed individualists Bartel van Vuuren and Liezle Fourie from Sobeit Studio who are likely to do so in a riveting fashion, showcasing their unique concept of “uncomfortable beauty”. Visitors are certain to be delighted that one of the city’s most talked about design studios is creating the exhibition’s themed feature. Greg Mellor in the Decorex Designer Spotlight. Cape Town interior designer Greg Mellor has been invited to create an inspiring space, in collaboration with fabric house St Leger & Viney. With the spirit of global travel and a nostalgia for the exotic adventures of early explorers some of the leading décor trends at the moment, Greg says it is this layering and collection of personal objects, together with block printed fabrics that has inspired the installation he will be creating at Decorex Cape Town. Design and Trends by Dion Chang on 25th April. The 2014 Design & Trend Forecast, featuring leading trend forecaster Dion Chang, is to run alongside the Decorex Cape exhibition later this month. Decorex Cape Town is an official event of the World Design Capital 2014, and the Design & Trend Forecast, would also feature an interior design trend update by design studio FranklinTill plus a report back on the renowned International Kitchen Trade Show, Eurocucina. Your annual colour update. Plascon will once again showcase their 2014 Colour Forecast, where visitors can see the latest colour trends in action. Plascon won the Best Stand award at Decorex Durban. We can assure you this is one not to be missed. The theme of this year’s Colour Forecast is Colour Nation and reflects all the vibrant colours that are inspiring paint at the moment. Plascon will have 4 paint effect talks on the stand each day to answer any colour queries. Visitors can also get their copy of the latest Spaces magazine which is the makeover issue. 100% Design. A new addition to the Decorex Cape Town line-up is the 100% Design South Africa Preview Pavilion. The installation will showcase 100 beautiful things, in celebration of World Design Capital’s theme of (Beautiful Space, Beautiful Things). All the objects, on show will be chosen by 100% Design South Africa Programmes Director, Cathy O’Clery, objects are designed and made and in production in 2014. Craft Collective is Decorex SA’s own showcase of design-quality craft. This year, the Cape Craft and Design Institute as well as the Eastern Cape Development Corporation will showcase the handmade designs by their members. Entertainment and ideas at the DionWired Design Your Life Theatre. Look out for SA’s Barista Champion Craig Charity demonstrating how to make specialty coffee at home. Jason Steel will be showing his “extreme” cooking skills, Zola Nene from Expresso will be sharing her passion for food and Grace from Cupcakes by Design will be demonstrating how to make fabulous cake designs and eye catching cake decorating ideas. There’s some man décor too! The tongue in cheek “Manscape” project is inspired by the success of the Mancaves feature in 2012 where some of South Africa’s most popular male celebrities and designers created the ultimate Mancave. The boys are back again, only this time they‘re being sent outside to create an outdoor living space that any South African man would aspire to and want to recreate. Visitors can vote for their favourite Manscape and the winning celeb gets a cash prize to donate to a charity of his choice. Fashion designer Craig Port, and Surfer Dene Botha, are the celebrities taking part in the Manscape project. Craig Port is teamed up with Jody from Shimmy Beach Club, Dene Botha is paired with Leeroy Deane and Kim Theunissen from The Pole Yard. Chilling out. Decorex Cape Town is always a great day out and that’s because there’s plenty to eat and drink along the way. A popular foodie attraction is certain to be the KWV Gourmet Market. The KWV Gourmet Market promises food and beverage pairings with a variety of delicious treats in a night market setting. KWV is the sponsor for the Decorex Cape Town Gourmet Market which is set to be a great day out for everyone with a variety of food offerings to suit most tastes. The KWV Gourmet Market will offer Food Market Asian-style dishes to schwarmas, wraps, Thai curry as well as gourmet burgers, along with Wine, Cocktails and Wine Spriters by KWV.
