MEET NOZIPHO SITHOLE Nozipho Sithole, a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa has taken over the helm of South Africa’s national port operator, Transnet Port Terminals, on July 1 2017. Previously she practiced law at Weber Wentzel where she qualified as an attorney, conveyancer and notary public of the High Court before joining Transnet in 1994 as a legal advisor. In 2000 she moved to Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) as Port Manager for the Port of Durban. Her mandate was to ensure that TNPA Port of Durban provided marine services to port customers in line with best practice and process. In 2004 Ms. Sithole took over the reigns as TNPA General Manager Operations with oversight of all TNPA’s eight ports. August 2011 saw her join Transnet Freight Rail as General Manager of the operating divisions’ National Command Centre (NCC) which makes critical operational and maintenance decisions. The NCC is responsible for train service design, service planning, interface, train movement management, emergency response and business continuity management based on customer needs. In 2014 she became General Manager of TFR’s Iron Ore and Manganese Business Unit and successfully drove the high performing iron ore and manganese value chain. While at TFR she was one of a team of five that developed a detailed standard operating procedure for train planning and movement from July 2011 to March 2012. Ms. Sithole has been a member of the Institute of Directors since August 2013.
