PENSIONER’S SPECIALS MAKING SIGHTSEEING AFFORDABLE IN CAPE TOWN FOR THE OVER 60’S As summer wanes and the sometimes scorching days become cooler it is the perfect time to get out and about and experience all the wonderful things that the Cape has to offer. The good news for SA pensioners is that on Tuesdays and Fridays City Sightseeing offers a Pensioners Special* where over 60’s can buy half price tickets for the City Sightseeing red bus tours and the City Sightseeing Canal Cruise. The best way to see Cape Town – whether by land or sea City Sightseeing’s Red City Tour is the best way to get to Table Mountain and also visits 11 great stops around the city and includes a free Yellow Downtown Tour that stops at St. Georges Cathedral, Iziko Museum at the Planetarium, Mount Nelson Hotel, SA Jewish Museum, District Six Museum, and the Castle of Good Hope – to name a few. City Sightseeing’s other mainstay tour is the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour, which takes you beyond the city limits to 14 stops around the Peninsula, including Kirstenbosch, Mariner’s Wharf, World of Birds, the Imizamo Yethu Township (where you can do a guided walk) and more. Whilst on the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour be sure to try the free Purple Wine Tour, included in the cost of your ticket, which visits three beautiful wine farms in the historical Constantia Valley – Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia and Eagles’ Nest. Tying in perfectly with the City Sightseeing Pensioners Special is Kirstenbosch’s Tuesday pensioners specialwhich offers free entry to the botanical gardens on a Tuesday for over 60’s. (Please bring along your bar-coded ID book to qualify and note that this special is not available on public holidays.) Sunset cruise anyone? Or is high tea more your thing? For those who wish to try a nautical experience, the City Sightseeing Canal Cruise is a Hop On-Hop Off cruise, with five jetty points. The Canal Cruise boats depart from Jetty 1 behind the One & Only Hotel next to the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A and stops at the City Lodge, Harbour Bridge, the Westin and Cape Town International Convention Centre (Bus Stop 3). This route also makes the Canal Cruise a convenient water taxi connection between the CTICC and V&A Waterfront. Better still – the Canal Cruise ticket is valid for a full day, meaning you have unlimited access to the boats for that day and can hop on and off as often as you like. This unique hop-on, hop-off voyage allows passengers to experience an entirely different perspective of Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront from on board the boat and with the hop-on, hop-off option you might also decide to spend some time at any of the stops along the way and re-join a later boat. City Sightseeing’s Pensioners Special compliments the V&A Waterfront in their “Especially For You” seniors campaign which offers free parking anywhere at the V&A from Monday to Friday between 09h00 and 12h00 for SA pensioners. Park in the Portswood Parking and take a short stroll over the road to the City Sightseeing Tour Office situated outside the Two Oceans Aquarium where you can purchase the phenomenally well priced City Sightseeing pensioner’s tickets for half price. The Tour Office also sells water, sunblock and souvenirs – such as the newly launched music CD featuring all of the songs heard on the City Sightseeing onboard commentary. (Note that you must register with the V&A Waterfront at their information centre to access the “Especially For You” special offers. Also remember to bring along your ID book when you register.) And for those pensioners that prefer to leave their cars at home, Metrorail runs a pensioners special on Tuesdays, where over 60’s can travel for free on the train from any station to any destination within the Metropole area. This discount applies only on weekdays during off-peak times (09h00 – 14h00) and remember to bring you ID book.
