After announcing its theme for 2019, the Sun Met celebrated by G.H.Mumm, has unveiled its line-up of official designers who will bring the event’s theme, African Luxury: Precious Metals, to life when it returns to Kenilworth Racecourse on the 26th of January 2019.

Africa’s Richest Race Day will partner with four local fashion designers who will hit the Sun Met runway to showcase their interpretation of the African Luxury: Precious Metals theme. The 2019 line-up includes, Biji La Maison (Biji La Maison), Ole Ledimo (House of Ole), Mzukisi Mbane (Imprint ZA) and Warrick Gautier (Warrick Gautier).

Leading South African fashion designer and one of the greatest influencers in the fashion world, Warrick Gautier, said “The Sun Met is one of the most prestigious horse racing events in South Africa, so I am honoured to be invited by Sun International to showcase my “Racing Couture Collection”. It’s always so wonderful to collaborate with other incredible brands. My team and I are extremely excited at the studio as we prepare for this incredible day. The collection will be a high octane, glamorous and sensual collection reflecting the shimmering metallic minerals of Africa.”

Having worked in both Paris and Cape Town for leading luxury houses, Gautier is synonymous for creating the ultimate couture and tailored collections.

“I think its high time that we as Africans celebrate who we are and our resourceful continent. There’s a new dawn and awakening in fashion on our continent. Precious metals is who we are, we are gold, and the Sun Met will be a celebration of African luxury and our precious metals.” Added Ole Ledimo of House of Ole, who is known for creating bespoke wearable art inspired by Africa.

Africa has quickly become a major source of fashion inspiration on a global stage, and the theme for 2019 is a celebration of the continent’s natural resources as well as it’s true identity. Sun Met goers are encouraged to experiment with metallics, golds, platinums, and coppers, as Kenilworth racecourse will shimmer and shine come race day.
