The creator, owner and manager of Oh Voila, Barbara Kasasa, is originally from Belgium. She moved to Nice/France in 1996 to start her own advertising agency and moved to Monaco two years later. She has been living, HERE in Cape Town since 2002, where she started the company Jali Media publishing Cape Scene, an up market quarterly magazine for discerning leisure and corporate visitors to Cape Town. In the same year she began painting abstracts and designing furniture. In 2005 she launched Jali Events, a specialized events management company catering predominantly for exclusive clients,  including the Consulate of Monaco (opened by Prince Albert II of Monaco), private bank BoE, Maserati, HRH Princess of Hanover and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation. Her creativity started to resurface in 2004 and by mid-2006 Barbara decided to give up all other activities to be creative full-time. Her work (mixed media paintings and sculptures) is represented in numerous private collections around the world.

Whilst making various pieces of jewellery with bright striped ribbons for herself, some of her close friends loved them and wanted too. Word of mouth spread like wildfire, and before she knew it, she was producing jewellery for a host of clients. This led to the decision to focus on this jewellery line full time and the launch of the company Oh Voilà, (initially called Oh là là!)

Oh Voila will be known in South Africa in the next 2 years and worldwide in the next 5 years as a leader in uniquely designed accessories and corporate gifting while supporting job creation in South Africa.

  • Designing, manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing of branded jewellery and accessories to local and international customers, allowing the end user to stand out in an understated way at an affordable price, while at the same time, ensuring the company’s profitability.
  • Supporting job creation: all designs and materials are fairly produced in South Africa and hand made by previously underprivileged women.
  • Designs are different: minimalistic, created through the combination of many types of ribbons (Petersham, leather, silk, suede, velvet , Shweshwe fabric, etc) and original, organic shaped metal beads.
  • The packaging doubles up as a display solution for retailers.
  • Injecting new life into corporate gifting, offering designs that follow the same rules but enhances word of mouth in a cool and understated way. Corporate companies will appreciate the job creation approach.
