The Mother City’s trendiest home improvement, décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, the Cape HOMEMAKERS Expo, celebrated 21 years in the business and attracted 35 000 visitors over the 4-day period last week (15 to 18 September 2016).
The theme this year was Inspire, Create, and Innovate, offering exciting and unique feature areas and competitions. Says John Leyden, Business Development Director at HOMEMAKERS: “The Cape Town team pulled out all the stops to ensure that our 21st anniversary exhibition was the best to date. The quality of the exhibits were top-notch, with exhibitors raising the bar yet again. According to our judges, it was our best show ever. The overall stand design winner was The Kitchen Studio, and best stand awards in the feature areas went to Patio Warehouse (outdoor living), Room 13 Collection (live by DESIGN) and Wine Essentials/Koelenhof (d’VINE life MARKET).”
Adds Sandy Edwards, Branch Manager and Expo Organiser at HOMEMAKERS – Cape: “We’re delighted with the feedback we’ve received to date. Our exhibitors are over the moon with the quality of visitors and many reported their best sales ever. Many exhibitors sold out and others generated business leads that will keep them busy for months to come.”
According to Cheryl and Kelvin Bell of Headboards for Africa, it was a fantastic experience. “As first-time exhibitors, the sales and leads generated were explosive and exceeded our expectations, to say the least. Our phones have been ringing non-stop since the weekend.”
Ilse van der Leek of Alucut and Foldo Awnings was just as pleased. “Year on year, HOMEMAKERS has been great for our business Foldo Awnings, but this year we took a second stand for our new concept Alucut. And WOW! The Expo opened up a whole new world for us – the response from visitors and interest we generated was fantastic, with clients coming to us with so many different projects and out of the box ideas.”
For Petro van Zyl of De Kleipot, this year’s show was also heart-warming. “The amount of people who came to the Expo to specifically see my tiles was overwhelming. I have repeat clients each year – some even bring photos to show me what they’d done with the tiles the previous year.”
Donovan Stanford of Just Stone says every year seems to be getting better and better. “I have a lot of leads to work through.” Feedback from clients such as Trade Secret, Max Yield Energy and Daisy Solutions were as positive.
According to Edwards, their first ever Interior Design Challenge was also a huge success: “Two of South Africa’s leading designers, Marius Hitge and Misi Overturf, battled it out to get the most votes from visitors and one lucky visitor, Greg Meaker, walked away with exhibitor sponsored products to the value of R80 000! Needless to say, he was completely blown away!”
Edwards concludes: “We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all our exhibitors, visitors, sponsors, service providers, media friends and staff for their contribution to the success of this year’s Expo. We can’t do it without you!”
