Learners at St Martin’s School were thrilled to attend the very first Readathon Workshop to launch this year’s Red Reading Box last week on International Literacy Day, the 8th September.
For the past three years, the READ Educational Trust team has designed a box so exciting, it has successfully enticed children from all backgrounds into the wonderful world of reading and literacy.
This year is no different; the adventure-themed 2016 Readathon Red Reading Box is crammed with books and activities that will leave the young mind spellbound. Learners thoroughly enjoyed the two-hour workshop, presented by READ Ambassador, Grethe Fox.
Highly respected as an actress on stage, in television and on the silver screen, Ms Fox became a READ Ambassador four years ago. Her acting talents are put to great use when the fascinating Readathon Red Box is unpacked!
So, what’s in the box? For the real-life adventurers who love absorbing facts, the box contains a wide variety of activities and games including a Spelling Bee, a Voyage of Discovery Map Game and Card set, and much much more…
You can also make a difference and purchase a Red Reading Box directly from READ for R250 – www.read.org.za or from Take-a-Lot – www.takealot.com. One hundred percent of the profit of the Readathon Red Reading Boxes is allocated to distributing 3 000 of these boxes to schools in South Africa, furthering READ’s vision of reaching out to disadvantaged communities, promoting literacy and encouraging the joy of reading far and wide.
