FASHIONISTA ARITA BAGWANDIN Businesswoman, entrepreneur and fashionista Arita Bagwandin (31) has gone from a modest young girl to a resilient and prominent entrepreneur. In her early twenties, Arita studied hospitality management through correspondence due to her mom being ill and having to care for her at home.
Today Arita runs a successful business, Sense of Luxury, a range of luxury home and beauty products.
Born in the small town of Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal, Arita grew up in humble circumstances. “I used to read fashion magazines and watch models in their beautiful clothing. It was a form of escapism for me and inspired me to be like them. I’ve always been attracted to the world of glitz and glam and all things fine-looking. As I got older, it progressed to a genuine passion for fashion and trends and I was fortunate enough to get signed by a modeling agency.”
According to Arita, she doesn’t have a particular style. “The fashionista in me mixes new trends with timeless pieces. I’ve always had a fascination with the Marilyn Monroe’s and Coco Chanel’s of the world. I love old Hollywood glamour. Style and fashion can come from anywhere. I’m often inspired by a girl at the mall who’s wearing something fabulous to designs by Javaid of Jagadi Haute Couture. He’s one of my favourite designers and is busy designing something special for me – a showstopper, no doubt.”
On staying fit, Arita doesn’t believe in diets. “I advocate everything in moderation. I’m also very disciplined at working out and enjoy anything from a long run on the beach to Zumba and yoga. I try to eat as healthily as possible, but have an incredible sweet tooth, so I have cheat days to indulge in ice cream.”
Arita believes that every woman should have a pair of ripped jeans in her cupboard to give her that sexy edge. “It’s so versatile. You can dress it up or down, so I have them in every colour.”
