STYLING YOUR COFFEE TABLE The main focus in any living room will be your 2 most pre-dominant pieces, the sofas and the coffee table. Sofas can be easily decorated with scatter cushions and throws in accent colours and designs. When it comes to your coffee table it is just as important to apply as much decor time and detail to this piece as you do to the rest of your home. It will become the main focal piece in your room which you can have loads of fun with! Coffee table shapes will possibly influence on how you style it. The most commonly used coffee table shape is the rectangle, however contemporary design has introduced a collation of round cylinder tables ( usually in settings of 3 or 5) Round cylinder tables are great! I love using these in most of my living room settings for clients. Simply because they are great for small spaces, easy to move around and add interest to a living room setting. Styling this type of coffee table is very simplistic. Chose 2 out of a collation of 3 cylinder tables and select a setting per table, leaving the 3rd one empty. Therefore you are still adding decor interest yet maintaining its true contemporary feel. With your rectangular or square coffee table styles you can really layer with decor items. I always say working in a “3” sequence is great, and you can layer on top of this! A great example would be: 1. 1x Tray filed with artifacts / boxes and candles 2. Stacks of books ( top with a single artifact) 3. Pots of plants ( orchid) or vases filled with flowers Always remember the below guide of elements when styling your coffee table: 1. Natural elements: Flowers / orchids adds colour and gives a feel of the outside in 2. Candles: Create ambient lighting and if scented even better for the space 2. Books: Adds interest and gives your guest more insight as to who you are 4. Decor artifacts: Always a great addition to conversation 5. Tray: The main grounding element of coffee table styling, like a carpet is to a room. Like decorating any area of your home, take your time to find your collectables that truly represent you as a person. Your coffee table design is your personal showcase!
