MEET NICOLE VON MALTITZ Tell us about what you do? I am an Independent Travel Advisor who specializes in Cruises, tours, holiday packages and business trips. My target market is anyone who loves travel and enjoys the perks of having a travel agent do everything for them. I am also a professional Photographer in my free time and lifestyle photography is definitely a favorite of mine! What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why? My greatest influence in business has been my brother in law, Quentin who has started an incredible brand, Classic Cats Gin Bar. Him and I studied together and I have always admired his drive for making his money work for him. What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date? I thought my greatest accomplishment was being my own boss and starting my own company in June 2019, however now, looking back, it has to be that I was somehow able to pull my company through one of the toughest years in the travel industry to date and come out of it stronger and even more excited for the future! What have been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business? Mailchimp and Instagram have been the two most effective marketing programs I have used. I also ran a brilliant giveaway with some amazing industry partners in June this year. What do you enjoy most about your job? My clients. When I decided to leave my last paying job, I thought of the things I’d miss the most about it, and the first thing that came to mind were my clients. This helped me make the decision as to what I’d do next. – Open my own travel agency. What’s changed in your industry over the last few years and what do you see in the future? So much! Travel isn’t what it used to be. Now, due to COVID, rules and regulations change daily and some times hourly. It definitely keeps me on my toes as I need to be more focused through continuous research to keep me up to speed. Communication between agent and client has never been better! We are with you EVERY step of the way and thanks to todays technology, we are easily able to do so. The immediate future is very unknown, however, travel has always been a huge love for many and things will go back to some sort of “normal” over the next few years. Has the impact of the online space and social media made an impact on your business and why? Yes, it has allowed me to reach individuals I would not necessarily have been able to reach; it has also made it somewhat easier to get content out, quicker. If you had to start over from scratch, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? I would have registered my business from day one, I also would have put a little more money into marketing as well as a website. Starting a new business can be affordable, but if you really want to take off and do so well from the beginning, have ALL your ducks in a row before you do so, and make the marketing budget a little bigger. On Success What three things/people/ROLES have contributed most to your success? 1. Strong support system 2. Ignoring negative nelly’s 3. What one thing have you learned that has served you well over the years?Dreams are ruined by fear and you miss 100% of the opportunities you don’t take. On Motivation How do you motivate yourself and stay motivated?I enjoy the freedom that money gives me, so this is my motivation, and this is how I stay motivated. When I was 16, I asked my mother for a new dress. She said – “if you want a new dress, get a job and buy it yourself” About Yourself If you knew then what you know now, what would you tell your 18-year-old self?Suck it up and go get a degree in marketing! I was never a fan of studying. How do you get balance in your life? Exercise. It is incredible what a quick session at the gym or a short walk/run can do. If you have a brilliant idea, DON’T share it unless you know the person has your best interests at heart! 2. Don’t spend money on spoils for yourself in your first year. Save some and put some back into the business to help it grow.3. Don’t take things too personally, you can’t please everyone.
