When Vanessa Williams met her partner on the 4th of July last year, it wasn’t the striking ‘Carmen Marc Valvo’ Wedding gown, the exotic belly dancers or the glamorous Rolls Royce that Vanessa arrived in that had guests gushing, but rather the 14k gold plated wedding Invitations that were custom designed by UK Wedding Invitation Company, Adorn Invitations.
Envisaging the design
Vanessa had met Jim whilst cruising the Nile on a holiday with her daughter in 2012. The couple had locked eyes on each other and following a three-hour long date – it seemed as if a Wedding Ceremony was always going to be on the cards. Paying homage to the place where their love story first began – the couple thus decided on a Royal Egyptian theme for their Wedding and working together with wedding planner Carla Measer-Costamagna and the creative minds of the design team at Adorn – the teams set out to design an invitation that would rival the actual celebration in its glamour and elegance.
Peonie flowers, golden cupcake holders and golden shimmer were all featured throughout the wedding and all played an important part in inspiring the actual invitations.
The Inspiration process – which took over two months, had all of the top designers at Adorn working countless days and nights to create the stunning design. Compiling several inspiration boards – the team took motivation from images, Egyptian history and details of the wedding to include in the final design.
Fashioning the design
The initial step that was taken in creating the design was to first mix up the base and highlight colour. A gorgeous and on shade trend of Marsala was chosen as the main shade due to its romantic ties with passion and its exotic nuances. This colour was created by combining several inks until the perfect shade was achieved giving a vibrant and very authentic feel. Combined with shimmery gold highlights; there was an uncanny resemblance to the golden sandy Egyptian plains where the couple first laid eyes on each other.
Next, came the most difficult process of laser cutting the outside cage of the invitation. With a spectacular eye for detail – the team couldn’t look past the stunning lace detail that was featured on Vanessa’s Carmen Marc Valvo gown. This lace detailing was thus hand sketched by one of the designers who then uploaded it onto a computer software program where the pattern was replicated to produce a uniform and mirrored design which would then be laser cut onto the card.
The Romance of the Design
Although the entirety of the invitation design just screams opulence and imagination, it was the 14k gold Lotus flower seal that graced the outside of the invitation which truly takes the design to a whole new level. Being the romantics that they are – once the design team had discovered that Jim had actually engraved a Lotus Flower inside Vanessa’s ring, they couldn’t resist including it in the design. Symbolising new love and awakening – the flower was hand applied to every invitation and proved to be the perfect introduction to guests of Vanessa and Jim’s new life together.
Vanessa was absolutely ecstatic with the final design and the guest reception was overwhelming. Vanessa described the invitations as a “piece of artwork!” and just as Vanessa and Jim had fallen in love with each other as soon as they laid eyes on each other – it seems as if the same can be said for the unique invitations.
Due to the overwhelming responses for the invitation, the design will be put into production later this year at a lower cost so all brides can have a piece of the royal celebration.
