Going on a great holiday is something we all dream of and try to do as often as possible. Planning that holiday doesn’t come without stress though and keeping a handle on everything can be quite the juggling act. However, there are ways of ensuring you have all you need before embarking on your adventure.
Here are a few tips to ensure your holiday preparation is sufficient and you’ll have all you need:
Have everyone make a list
Have everyone in the family make a list of must-haves and wants. Start by packing the must-haves and knocking off the items that are unnecessary. In this way you can ensure everyone remains aware of the luggage limitations and doesn’t pack a bunch of unnecessary items that simply take up space in your luggage. Also, consider what can be bought at your destination or the airport. International airports have large duty-free shopping areas where you could find yourself a bargain. Have a look at the potential savings you might incur by hitting the shops at the airport when you arrive at your destination. For instance, if you wanted a new pair of sunglasses for your summer holiday the duty-free sunglasses you can buy at the airport when you arrive are likely to be better than any pair you could pick up before you leave.
Don’t forget your meds
Some basic medication packed into a small toiletry bag is ideal. Pack in only the most important medication you might need. Finding the right medication in a foreign place can be difficult and might require a prescription which is tricky when you are travelling abroad. Take medication that covers all basic ailments such as stomach concerns, flu symptoms, headaches and allergies.
Make sure you have room for your new goodies
Don’t pack so much that you don’t have any wiggle room for your new purchases. Any souvenirs, gifts for family and friends or new, exotic extensions to your wardrobe must be able to fit into your bags when travelling home – bear this in mind before you leave.
Check the weather
Check the local weather report for you holiday destination all the time. This is really important – don’t assume that because your travel agent said the weather was always sunny or completely freezing, it will definitely behave that way. Weather is unpredictable and it is smart to watch the weather patterns in the week leading up to your departure so you can pack accordingly.
Lastly, double-check all your absolute must-haves. Have you got your passport, tickets and money with you? Are these packed safely into your hand luggage that will remain on your person? Have you packed in some adaptor plugs so you can charge your phone and laptop while away? And, have you told someone exactly where you going and how to reach you in case of an emergency? A luxury holiday is such a wonderful experience and yet many experience a lot of stress before they leave which can place a damper on the adventure. Make sure your holiday is stress-free by planning and preparing well in advance so if anything is amiss you can fix it without being in a rush.
