As the August winds finally die down, we can start looking forward to spring. A change of season generally comes with the added excitement of new experiences and a new perspective on life.

But, as we all know, spring is also the start of allergy season. Luckily, there are quite a few ways to work around this dreaded symptom of seasonal change. It all starts by prepping your home and turning it into a safe haven, free from allergy inducing factors.

Keep up with maintenance

When is the last time you had your home appliances checked? Things like your tumble dryer, vacuum and air conditioner may need a clean, or filter replacements – especially if you haven’t used them in a while.

It’s because of this that regular maintenance is so important. Make sure you and your family stay safe and healthy this spring by disconnecting the vent from the back of the tumble dryer and using a brush to remove any lint. Take your vacuum apart and give everything a good clean, washing or replacing filters where necessary. Once you’ve done this, you can rest assured that all your spring cleaning for the season will go off without a hitch.

Speaking of spring cleaning…

In preparation for the new season, you should definitely schedule a deep clean of your home. Move your fridge, dryer, dishwasher, and even couches out of the way and start sweeping, scrubbing, and making your space a dust-free, allergy-free zone.

Next, move on to the bedding, any tablecloths, and curtains. You’ll be surprised at the amount of dust that settle on these throughout the year. As a general rule of thumb, you should be washing your bedding as often as possible. It’s something we use every day, but keeping it clean is especially important at times when seasonal allergy symptoms are at their worst.

Stock your medicine cabinet with natural remedies

Apart from the usual antihistamines we reach for when allergies become unbearable, there are some natural remedies to consider if your goal is to avoid medication. A saline rinse can help to wash away any trapped pollen when used as a nasal spray on a daily basis. Fish oil supplements help to lower your levels of leukotrienes (which contribute to inflammatory responses). Not to mention turmeric, which may act as a decongestant and can help reduce common allergy symptoms.

Invest in cleaner air

Probably the best way to avoid allergies is to invest in an appliance that offers cleaner, purer air without you having to lift a finger. The LG ArtCool is known for its Ioniser technology that uses over three million ions to sterilise not only the air going through the air conditioner, but also harmful substances and odours surrounding the unit. The tech has been proven to eliminate most bacteria within 60 minutes, making this appliance an asset to any home.

Prepping your home for allergy season might seem like a hassle and a whole weekend affair, but once you’ve deep cleaned, stocked up on natural remedies and looked into cleaner air, nothing will be able to hold you back from having one of the most memorable, sniffle-free seasons in history.
