It’s been a challenging year and most of us are feeling some wear and tear. There is little better than the gift of relaxation and indulgence to recover from a long year, and so this December, why not spoil yourself or someone else with a beauty or wellness treatment?

Below are some ideas from the Specialist Laser and Cosmetic Institute (SCIN) on the best luxurious festive gifts for beauty lovers.

Facials
“A facial is a wonderful treat to help rejuvenate your skin and restore the health and glow that the year took away. In addition to a facial being a relaxing and pampering experience, your skin will receive added hydration and the nourishing treatment it deserves. During a facial your skin is cleansed, exfoliated and any impurities will be extracted, leaving you with a radiant, healthy glow,” says SCIN dermatologist Dr S’lindile Ndwalane.

Massage
A massage is the ultimate in well-being gifting. It’s relaxing, indulgent, and luxurious – the perfect way to help yourself or a loved one unwind after the intensity of 2021.

“There are a range of wonderful massages that people can choose from. At SCIN we offer aromatherapy massages, de-stress muscle relaxing massages, hotstone massages, prenatal massages, relaxing scalp massages, reflexology, and Swedish massages,” says Dr Sli.

Manicures and Pedicures
Having well cared for hands and feet is a serious confidence booster and a great treat for the festive season when you may be out and about and wanting to look your best.

“A classic manicure and pedicure is a safe bet for a lush bit of pampering, and a luxury mani and/or pedi takes it to the next level.  You can also add a paraffin dip for the ultimate hands and feet treat.”

Brow and Lash Tinting
“Lash and brow tinting can shorten your morning routine and give you an extra boost of confidence to take on the day,” advises Dr Sli. “Lash and brow tintingis a quick and simple treatment – the entire process typically takes around a half an hour for both treatments and requires no downtime after your appointment.

Dr Sli also offers guidance on some additional ideas for fabulous beauty treatment gifts for yourself or someone else which move towards the medical aesthetics side of the beauty industry.

Chemical Peels
“Chemical peels make use of chemical solutions to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. They are helpful for the treatment of facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.”

“With a chemical peel you see an immediate brightening and smoothing of your skin. SCIN offers a variety of chemical peels – there is a NeoStrata Glycolic peel, Lactifirm Hydration peel, Beta peel, and a Trycloratic Acid peel.”

IV Vitamin Therapy

“Intravenous vitamin drips deliver essential vitamins and antioxidants directly into the bloodstream, for maximum absorption,” explains Dr Sli. “Some of the key benefits include increased energy levels, improved health and immunity, enhanced mood, reduced stress, boosted hydration and muscle recovery and enhanced skin health and brightening.”

Vampire Facial

According to Dr Sli, another firm favourite is PRP skin regeneration therapy, also known as the vampire facial.

“A vampire facial or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment is a procedure that aims to use a patient’s own blood to trick the body into healing and repair. The blood is extracted and undergoes a spinning process to separate the plasma, which is injected back by puncturing the skin using a dermapen or injections.”

Thread Lift“A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure where temporary sutures are used to produce a “lift” in the skin. The thread lift is a minimally invasive treatment performed at the clinic with minimal downtime and recovery.”

Micro-Needling

“Micro-needling is a form of collagen induction therapy that is extremely popular,” says Dr Sli. “The idea behind micro-needling is that it creates a controlled injury underneath the skin’s surface, encouraging the body to respond with the formation of new elastin and collagen, as well as new capillaries for an improved blood supply in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response, reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines and other skin texture changes.”

Dermal Fillers
“Dermal fillers are injectable substances designed to erase wrinkles, augment lips, enhance volume and restore the youthful contour of the face by plumping up the area. This medical aesthetic treatment has been around for some years and continues to grow in popularity.”

Laser Skin Rejuvenation
According to Dr Sli, laser skin rejuvenation improves sun-damaged skin, scarsand minor facial flaws. Skin appears tighter, younger looking and has reduced pigmentation.
