They say chocolate makes everybody happy and smiles are always in fashion. Can you imagine then what happens when you mash up fashion and chocolate? You get a totally fresh and inspiring partnership. SA Fashion Week kicked off on Wednesday with a bang shining a spotlight to some of South Africa’s “IT” fashionistas and fashion trendsetters who showcased some of their best and trendiest designs to the fashion community.


Creator of the Rich Factory brand, South African fashion designer, Rina Chunga, who is best known for her reimagined contemporary African designs, was one of the headline acts to be included to a hit list of incredible fashion designers.


Chunga revealed her latest collection in collaboration with international chocolate brand, AERO, which has also recently launched its new “AERO Let Go Moments” campaign. The campaign is about celebrating moments that allow you to let go and be free.


“This for me has to be one of the most interesting collaborations I have ever done. As a designer, one gets inspired by a myriad of things around you, and in this case, I have been inspired by chocolate. The experiences I have shared with the AERO brand have allowed for so much creativity and freedom. In putting together this collection I had to get in touch with how the product made me feel and I think we captured it so well,” said Chunga.


Her Aero inspired designs represented her true moments with the brand and came through with her usage of creative designs that exuded luxury and exploration of fabrics – fabrics that would not otherwise be used with African designs.


“Through this collection I wanted to ensure that I capture the true essence of what makes me a truly modern contemporary African woman. With AERO as a collaborator, I think I was able to achieve this quite nicely,” she concluded.


The who’s who of SA media and celebville came out in numbers to support Rina and Rich Factory. Spotted in front were TV presenter and actress Pearl Thusi, socialite and fashionista Sarah Langa and Metro FM’s Luthando ‘LootLove’ Shosha amongst others. Rich Factory’s aesthetic made great use of bright and bold colours that spoke authentically to the evolution of AERO over the years.


“AERO is all about opening up new worlds to its consumers in unconventional ways. This collaboration between us and Rich Factory is one such way we have endeavoured to showcase that we are more than just a chocolate brand. But rather, one that is about unlocking new possibilities, even within the Fashion space. We are about local talent and are very pleased to have been part of this journey with Rina,” said Aero Business Executive Officer, Zanele Mthethwa.


SA Fashion Week continues this week, showcasing some of Mzansi’s best designs and collaborations in Sandton Johannesburg.
