Raised by the Bar launches in Durban, turning 135 years of shared heritage into practical support for entrepreneurs across five South African regions.
After 135 years in South African homes, Sunlight Green Bar has launched Raised by the Bar – a new national platform giving back to the communities that have shaped the brand’s legacy.
The platform launched in Durban on Friday, marking the first stop on a nationwide journey that will continue through Mthatha, Johannesburg, Mbombela and Polokwane. Along the way, the Raised by the Bar truck will bring communities together through storytelling, live experiences and practical support, while celebrating the people, places and traditions that have shaped generations of South Africans. Local performers will also have opportunities to showcase their talent, while communities are invited to share the stories, memories and traditions that have shaped them.

Just as Sunlight Green Bar has been passed from one generation to the next, many of South Africa’s community spaces are built through the same continuity – families, neighbours and entrepreneurs creating livelihoods, opportunities and a sense of belonging over time.
The campaign came to life in one of the country’s most recognisable centres of community and commerce: the Durban taxi rank. Far more than places of transit, taxi ranks are where the rhythm of South African life plays out every day. They are places where businesses are built, conversations are shared and thousands of local traders earn a living. Local traders are also part of that story.
As Raised by the Bar continues its journey across South Africa, each community will add its own chapter to a living archive of the people, places and memories that have made Sunlight Green Bar part of everyday South African life for 135 years.
