Trevor Noah Foundation, in partnership with Sifiso EdTech, proudly launches AI and Robotics Labs at Mikateka and P.S. Tsosane Primary Schools. The launch is a significant step towards fostering community building, expanding partnerships and driving innovation and improvement in the education sector.
The AI and Robotics Lab is designed to provide over 300 students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technologies, preparing them for the challenges of the digital age. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to the tools and knowledge necessary for success in a rapidly evolving world. The lab will offer a curriculum that includes programming, robotics and artificial intelligence, tailored to encourage creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Khuselwa Mxatule, Assistant Director of Impact and Learning at the Trevor Noah Foundation, states, “Taking a holistic approach to harnessing artificial intelligence and robotics in education is essential if we are to prepare school leavers and graduates from public education systems for the 21st-century world of work and innovative entrepreneurial opportunities. Such an approach demands strong collaboration between the government, private sector and non-profit organisations to ensure that both short- and long-term measures are put in place to expose and train learners, students and educators to technological advances and AI-related skills.”
Sizwe Nxasana, CEO of Sifiso EdTech: “Sifiso EdTech is deeply committed to revolutionising education. Our partnership with the Trevor Noah Foundation exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change in the education sector. Together, we are paving the way for a future where all students are prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.”
This launch is particularly timely and relevant, given the recent developments from the South African Department of Basic Education, which has gazetted the inclusion of coding and robotics into the national curriculum. This policy shift underscores the growing recognition of the importance of STEM education in preparing students for the future job market and fostering a culture of innovation.
The event highlights the significant commitment of the two organisations to advancing educational opportunities and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in underrepresented communities as it represents the third and fourth coding and robotics labs that these organisations have collaborated on by equipping students with these essential skills, the project aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders.
The Trevor Noah Foundation and Sifiso EdTech extend their gratitude to all supporters and partners who are making this vision a reality. Together, they are paving the way for a brighter future for the students of Mikateka and P.S. Tsosane Primary Schools and the surrounding community.
