On 29 August, Pieter-Steph du Toit made history as he pulled on the Springboks’ green and gold jersey for the 100th time, joining an elite group of South African players to reach one of rugby’s most significant milestones.
His 100th Test was more than a number. It marked the culmination of years of sacrifice, resilience and unwavering commitment to the team and country, and a moment celebrated by the millions of South Africans who have watched, cheered and stood behind him throughout his career.
Because the Springboks have never simply been a rugby team. They are part of our collective story — bringing generations together, turning strangers into supporters and giving an entire nation moments to believe in something bigger than themselves.
As du Toit reached this milestone, Cape Union Mart celebrated not only his remarkable journey, but the supporters who have been part of it, bringing his 100th Test together with the launch of its Supporters Capsule and K-Way Supporters Club.
“Playing a single test for the Springboks is a huge honour and a privilege. To have played so many more than that, I feel truly blessed and grateful,” says du Toit.
Reaching 100 Tests was never something Pieter-Steph expected when he first began chasing his childhood dream of playing for South Africa.
“It was a dream of mine that came true, and that moment of realising it was one of the happiest of my life. It was always just a dream, but one I knew I had to chase and turn into reality.”
Getting there required more than talent. Injuries became some of the biggest challenges of his career, testing his ability to return to the field and find his best form again. Throughout those periods, his family and loved ones remained a constant source of support.
His journey reflects something bigger about South African rugby: a game whose passion extends well beyond the 80 minutes on the field.
“What strikes me most is the passion. Almost every boy, every man, dreams of playing for the Springboks at some point.”
That connection between the team and the people who support it is something du Toit knows well.
“There’s something special that connects us, a bond where we’re always there for one another,” du Toit says of the relationship between players and supporters.
It is this sense of connection that sits at the heart of Cape Union Mart’s Supporters Capsule, a collection created for the many ways South Africans come together to enjoy the game. Whether watching from the stands, gathering around a braai, meeting friends at the pub or settling in at home, the collection is designed to bring versatility, comfort and supporter spirit to match-day dressing.
The collection has also come to life through the K-Way Supporters Club, a community-driven platform bringing rugby fans together to celebrate the game, connect with fellow supporters and experience a series of match-day activations rooted in the culture of South African rugby.
The first activations took place at Century City Square in Cape Town as part of the Greatest Rivalry Fanpark on 29 August and will continue on 5 September, creating a space for supporters to come together, watch the game and celebrate the moments that make match day special.
To commemorate du Toit’s 100th Test, K-Way developed a limited-edition 100th Cap rugby jersey and peak cap, created specifically to mark the milestone. Both are available to purchase in selected Cape Union Mart stores, online and at the K-Way pop-up shop at the Fanpark, giving supporters the opportunity to own a piece of this historic moment.
For du Toit, the milestone is ultimately a celebration of a career built through ambition, resilience and the people who have been part of the journey. It is also a moment shared with the supporters who have watched him grow from a young player with a dream into one of South Africa’s most accomplished rugby players.
And there is a personal connection between du Toit and Cape Union Mart that makes the milestone even more meaningful.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Cape Union Mart, so knowing we’re now on the same team makes this all the more special. Thank you.”
From the players on the field to the supporters watching from wherever they are, Cape Union Mart is celebrating what makes rugby uniquely South African: the shared passion, the community and the unwavering support that exists long after the final whistle.
