If there’s one thing the September month brings us, it’s beautiful flowers and an opportunity to spring clean! Oh, the joy we feel when we get to remove clutter, organise our space and simply enjoy the feeling of peace and accomplishment that comes with it!
If you are looking for effective ways to neaten up your space, then look no further. Here are our favourite tips to organise your workspace.
- Store files online
Your desk may be filled with sticky notes, files, documents and other stationary items apart from your desktop or laptop. But do they really need to be on your desk, especially if the information is confidential? A combox is perfect for storing hard copies and neatening up your desk, however, consider digitised alternatives for your business to lessen the clutter on your desk. A document management system is ideal for storing your company’s files online, giving you and your colleagues access from anywhere in the world. And if you’re working remotely, then this is the perfect solution for you. No more sifting through piles of content – just a few clicks and you can instantly retrieve your files.
- Organise based on your needs
Only place items you regularly use on your desk. The rest can be stored in a nearby cupboard or your favourite coloured combox. For instance, you may use stationary and perhaps your notebook or calendar every day. However, an auditing file you only look at once a month or every quarter? That is probably not necessary to have on your desk.
- Create more storage space
You can never have too much storage space. Install floating shelves or cupboards and store all your files. Use intellifiles in different colours to store important information and place them neatly on your shelves instead of adding them all to your desk. Creating additional storage space and putting different items in their new places will give you an even better idea about what to keep and what to remove.
- Arrange your cables accordingly
Whether you have cables under or on top of your desk, they can easily become a nuisance if they are not kept under control. The last thing you need is for them to get in the way as you move in and out of your chair throughout the day. Use cable ties to keep cables out of the way or mount the cables underneath your desk. Colour-coded cable labels are also great for storage – you will soon be able to identify certain cables based on their respective labels, making them easier to locate and store.
- Establish work zones
Depending on the size of your home office, create different areas in the room where you can go through various kinds of information. For instance, if your office desk is in front of your window, use a corner to add another sofa or occasional chair to sit and enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee or read a newspaper. This gives you a break from your desk and allows your eyes to rest after spending hours in front of the computer. But more importantly, it prevents your desk from attracting unnecessary clutter.
- Clean your office frequently
When you spring clean, it forces you to face the clutter you may not have noticed pile up over the last few weeks because you were just too busy. However, frequent office cleaning can bring to your attention documents that need shredding, and other items that are causing untidiness in the office.
Organise your space to boost productivity and put you more in control of your day-to-day!
