There’s something special about enjoying seafood by the ocean — and my recent visit to Ocean Basket at the V&A Waterfront was exactly that and more. I was invited to try out their latest specials, and let’s just say… it was a feast worth talking about!
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest hospitality. Our waiters, Brandon and Lele, were absolutely phenomenal. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, they made our entire experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. The staff truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home — and that kind of service makes all the difference.
Starting with the Classics
We kicked things off with Ocean Basket’s famous complimentary bread and spreads — always a highlight. There’s just something comforting about that fresh bread while you settle in and browse the menu. We kept it simple with water for the table and got ready for the main event.
The Sushi Specials – Incredible Value
We couldn’t resist trying the sushi specials — and the value is honestly unbeatable.
Sushi 11 – R99 (including a soda!)
This platter included 4 Smokey tempura prawn & salmon rolls, 4 prawn California rolls, and 3 avo maki. Fresh, flavourful, and perfectly portioned — plus a soda included? A win!
Sushi 16 – R125
This one featured 6 saucy salmon futomaki, 4 rock shrimp tempura, and 6 prawn maki. A generous portion and packed with flavour. Ideal for sharing… although you might not want to!
The Star of the Show: Perfect Catch Platter
We also ordered the Perfect Catch Platter (R299) — and it truly lives up to its name.
This hearty platter includes:
• 2 pieces of fish (we chose fried)
• 6 prince prawns
• Calamari strips
• 4 panko prawns
• Mussels
• Calamari
• Chips & rice
It’s the ultimate seafood spread — generous, satisfying, and perfect for anyone who loves variety on their plate
