The Boland’s beloved Waterblommetjie Festival is back for its 16thedition on Saturday, 5 September. Mark the date in your diary, pack up the family and invite friends to join you for a day filled with laughter, wine and good food – and of course, waterblommetjies in many different ways.
This year Windmeul Kelder, Rhebokskloof Estate and Domaine Brahms outside Paarl will team up to celebrate this indigenous delicacy. Each location offers a range of fun activities unique to their venue. Festivities start from 08:00 in the morning. Conveniently located within a radius of a few kilometres, it is easy to pop in at all three venues.
MARKET VIBES AT WINDMEUL
Windmeul Kelder is the original home of the festival and is also hosting its popular farmer’s market on the day. Local vendors offer fresh, local and seasonal produce for sale. Enjoy a sumptuous farmer’s breakfast to set you up for the day. Fitness fans can enter the Run the Vine trial run with distances of 5km, 10km and 17km through the vineyards. Entries on https://entries.onsite-events.co.za/events/84302-rtv-windmeul. Indulge in a free waterblommetjiebredie and wine pairing between 10:00 and 12:00. The fiercely contested potjiekos competition will also be part of the fun, while live music always creates a great vibe. There are still a few spots available to show of your potjie skills – enter by sending an email to wines@windmeul.com before 21 August. Enjoy authentic waterblommetjies – either outside or for a special treat inside the working cellar. Seating is on a first come first served basis. Stock up on your favourite Windmeul wines, including their award-winning Chenin Blanc. There is a designated kids’ area with jumping castle, face painting and balloon twisting.

CREATIVE PAIRINGS AT RHEBOKSKLOOF
Rhebokskloof is highlighting their superb wines such as the Rhebokskloof Shiraz with a delicious tapas and wine pairing. Five delectable tasting portions have been paired with five of their amazing wines. Pre-booking for this tasting is essential. The restaurant will serve a selection of waterblommetjie inspired dishes, including a boerewors and waterblommetjie paella and a creative waterblommetjie twist on the traditional three bean salad. Pop in at the stylish Lume restaurant to try the special waterblommetjie margarita cocktail, which has been created especially for this year’s event.
VINTAGE FUN AT DOMAINE BRAHMS
Domaine Brahms promises a festival of fun for the entire family. Book their famous buffet brunch or a themed high tea. The high tea costs R215 per person and must be booked by 28 August at brahms@iafrica.com. Visit the vintage car museum and showcase your own vintage car to win prizes. Prebook for a garden picnic in the beautiful surroundings. Relax and enjoy food and drinks while the kids play at the “Rooibus Playpark” with a jumping pillow, waterslide, animals and much more. Enjoy and buy world class Domaine Brahms wine at festival prices. Waterblommetjie dishes including a waterblommetjie quiche, beef burger with waterblommetjie chutney and a waterblommetjie beef pie are available all day.
