The Old Biscuit Mill gains another ‘cool kid’ on its block with the addition of The Purveyor Steakhouse and Pizzeria to its foodie scene and restaurant offering.
The Purveyor recently hosted some of SA’s top media in an afternoon that was centred on showcasing some seriously tasty food. As the newest addition to The Old Biscuit Mill tenant line up, The Purveyor is doing things a little differently. Here the focus is on unfussy, gourmet goodness that covers the food we all crave regularly. Aiming to be a ‘locale’ where you know your pizza is cooked in an oven that’s specially sourced from Italy and your steak is always cooked to perfection.
The theme behind ‘The Purveyor’ is one of fun and a nod to a bygone era from the 1900’s to the 1930s, where things were simpler, choices clearer and an air of mischief hung in the air. Dovetailing with the name of this new establishment is the unwavering, outstanding quality of both its products and service level. A huge emphasis is placed on sourcing quality ingredients through other local ‘purveyors’ and responsible and sustainable food practices.
Justin Joubert heads up a team of eight chefs and each one brings something unique to the kitchen. He was given a simple brief within his new head chef role, to create the best steaks and prawns on the menu and the rest he had free reign on. The Purveyor caters to all, from vegans to meat and seafood lovers. The focus is on a relaxed atmosphere that spills out into the terrace area of The Old Biscuit Mill. The menu is simple and delicious, created to suit all palates and budgets. With an incredible inherited, imported Italian pizza oven, the obvious choice was to continue on with the Neapolitan-style pizzas that are the crowd favourites for a reason.
Head Chef Justin sums it all up perfectly. “The ethos and philosophy at Purveyor is built around a concept of sharing plates of food. I have always associated food with emotion and thoroughly believe that sharing food with friends and family brings nothing but positive vibes. The name Purveyor perfectly describes what we are doing here; we take great pride in sourcing the best ingredients, from Italian flour to grass-fed beef. After previously working at a few of the top ten restaurants in South Africa, the idea is to give locals and foreigners alike an experience to remember but at an affordable price.”
The Purveyor steakhouse & pizzeria is located within The Old Biscuit Mill.
