With some of us slowly returning back to our offices, the habits we created during lockdown could be causing unexpected anxiety while away from home. For example, is your house as clean as it should be? If you aren’t wiping down your surfaces three to four times a day, who is?
“During our time at home the need to have a clean home created cleaning habits most of us didn’t know we were capable of,” explains Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for home cleaning brand Chemico. “We needed to ensure that our homes were clean all day, every day and now with the return to our ‘past’ lives, are we still going to be able to make sure that this cleanliness continues?”
Although your house may not be as clean as when you were living in it twenty-four seven, that doesn’t mean it isn’t clean. Using a product that you know and trust will give you peace of mind. “Although we have learnt a lot about what makes us sick and what doesn’t, and how this affects our cleaning habits, being able to keep a ‘super’ clean home while being homebound did give us a sense of control over our health, our homes and our family’s well-being,” comments Ragavan. “But now, what do we do when we don’t have the time to clean, wipe and sweep every hour?”
Ragavan suggests five coping tips on how to reassure yourself that your home is clean even though you are not there:
- Use a product that you know and trust. This will give you the reassurance that your home is as clean as it should be. Chemico Liqui Cleen has been trusted by consumers for over 80 years, and over the years has adapted its formulation to handle any grime and germs, and together with its 3X Extreme Clean with Acti Beads, can ensure that all surfaces are spotless and hygienic.
- Get the whole family involved. Cleaning your home isn’t a one-person job, it is something that everyone should be involved in. If your children get home from school before you, they need to know that any mess they make needs to be cleaned up properly. For example, when making a sandwich the dishes need to be placed into the sink or dishwasher, all crumbs need to be scooped up and the surface needs to be wiped down.
- If you are particular about the way in which you clean your home, make sure that you share this knowledge with those who are helping you while you are at work. If you are going to worry about it being done correctly while you are not at home, then make sure you let everyone know how you would like it to be done.
- Give it time. You may find that the more you are at work, the less you will worry about your home and trust in those who are helping you.
- If you are the one that is responsible for keeping your home clean, but there just doesn’t seem like enough hours in the day to get it all done the way you want it, divide and conquer. Split your chores up into three different groups – things to clean every day, things to clean two to three times a week, and things to clean once a week. This gives you the chance to plan your cleaning schedule around your free time, and not the other way around.

Making sure our homes are clean is an important responsibility, but it doesn’t have to rule our lives. Using a product such as Chemico, which is known to be gentle on surfaces but delivers the job when it comes to hygiene, provides us with the knowledge that our homes are in good hands.
