2024 marks 30 Years of The Lion King

In celebration of 30 years since the release of the original animated film, stars and special guests attended Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary Tribute Special at The Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg on 19 July. Performance and event images are now available.
In surprise moments during the orchestral tribute show, musicians and talent were joined on stage by local performing icons Shekhinah, Vusi Nova and Lira. Legendary composer and performer Lebo M, made a special appearance to the delight of audience members.
Featuring the vocal stylings of Monique Steyn, Zita Pretorius, Brandon October, Monde Msutwana and Tracey-Lee Oliver, Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary Tribute Special will air exclusively on e.tv on 18 August 2024 at 17:00, with a repeat broadcast on eMovies on 19 August 2024 at 19:00 – as part of e.tv’s The Lion King Festival in August.
Performed by The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Eddie Clayton, the tribute features songs from the original 1994 animated film, the Broadway stage show and the 2019 film, as well as other classic Disney movie moments.
2024 heralds the 30th anniversary of The Lion King and, to mark his special milestone, The Walt Disney Company Africa will be celebrating the film’s continuing legacy in South Africa through unique and exciting launches, collaborations and more, in the lead up to the highly anticipated 20 December release of Mufasa: The Lion King in cinemas.
