The Mother City remains an exciting South African destination, owing to its beauty, the friendliness of locals and an array of fun activities on offer. Locals and visitors alike have long enjoyed what Cape Town has to offer and the latter certainly came in droves this summer season. Airports Company South Africa recently reported more than 260 000 international return passengers arriving at Cape Town International Airport in December 2022. “This is a 95% recovery in passenger numbers,” says Western Cape Economic Opportunities MEC, Mireille Wenger.

For those wanting some adventure
Thrill seekers have so many adventures to enjoy before the end of summer. Water lovers can enjoy activities like wakeboarding or kayaking with dolphins along the Atlantic Ocean, while those wanting to get out of the city for a bit can head to Blue-Rock Cable Waterski Resort along Sir-Lowry’s Pass in the Western Cape. This popular summer hangout offers waterskiing and wakeboarding, paintball, diving and zipline experiences fit for the whole family. You can also swim in the freshwater lake.

Trends like Dubai-style long brunches have hit SA’s shores with Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront’s seasonal Breakers Brunch. This three-hour-long buffet and a mix of buffet- and platter-style seasonal food and drink experience on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean is a definite not-to-miss. Head Chef Norman Heath comments that “Brunch should be all about enjoyment, good food and fun. Think bottomless drinks, an incredible menu, stunning views and captivating live music.” This particular brunch only runs until the end of March so get those bookings in to avoid disappointment.
For those who enjoy music, theatre and film
Live music and shows are back with a bang. Some of the city’s most popular spots to enjoy this season before summer is over are Kirstenbosch’s Summer Sunset Concerts and the open-air festival at Maynardville.
Music festivals to add to your list for 2023 are the annual Bazique Festival, February’s and Timeless Festival featuring international headlines Tycho and Royksopp in March.
Film enthusiasts keen on a summery movie experience now have GoDriveIn’s drive-in movie and roadhouse in Victoria Road Woodstock to add to their bucket list. GoDriveIn includes a private vehicle area in front of a large movie screen under the setting of a starry night sky. Movie tickets are sold separately to food and food trucks serve everything from curry, tacos or doughnuts.
For those who want to wind down and relax
To wind down, consider visiting one of Cape Town’s many beaches, or enjoying a braai or picnic and a swim at the Oudekraal or Silvermine recreation areas.
