Pick n Pay is bringing back its Springbok Collectaboks campaign, but this time it’s bigger, better and more fun. The second edition expands the collection from 31 to 67 unique cards and features the Springbok Women for the first time alongside the men and rugby legends. Other new additions include rare prize-winning cards.
Launching in stores and on Pick n Pay asap! nationwide on Monday, 19 October and the retailer has increased the volume of cards available this year in response to the demand that brought last year’s campaign to an early close.
This year’s collection brings together 32 Springbok men, 18 Springbok Women and 14 rugby legends, including Jean de Villiers, Duane Vermeulen, Bryan Habana, John Smit and Patrick Lambie. The collection includes a gold card featuring Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and two limited-edition silver cards celebrating Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth reaching 100 Test caps.
The cards feature action photography, player signatures and updated statistics, with each player’s high school included for the first time.
Six ultra-rare holographic cards guarantee collectors a prize, including R250 vouchers, which collectors can claim on the Pick n Pay asap! app.
The physical album this year also includes a checklist to help collectors track which cards they still need. Customers can also add them to a digital album in the Pick n Pay asap! app.
Phillip Gittins, Integrated Marketing Lead: Pick n Pay, says the expanded collection builds on the success of the first campaign, with more cards and new ways for fans to engage with the collection.
“The response to last year’s Collectaboks showed us just how much South Africans enjoy the excitement of collecting and swapping cards. It’s about more than completing an album – it’s about the memories families make along the way. For parents, it brings back the nostalgia of collecting as a child, while giving a new generation the chance to share that same excitement. The inclusion of the Springbok Women makes this year’s collection even more special, giving young fans the opportunity to find new heroes and celebrate the players inspiring the next generation of South African rugby,” says Gittins.
The campaign will also create opportunities for fans to connect in person. National Swap Days will be hosted at participating Pick n Pay stores nationwide every Saturday from during the campaign, from 10:00 to 12:00. Collectors can bring duplicate cards to trade, while selected stores will offer additional activities and entertainment.
