A little luxury… right here in Cape Town
You know those places you think you already know — and then you walk in and suddenly see them completely differently?
That was me at the newly reimagined InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town.
I was invited to experience the hotel following its incredible R1-billion redevelopment, and honestly… what a transformation!
From the moment I arrived, it felt like a completely new chapter for this iconic Cape Town hotel — modern, elegant and luxurious, while still feeling beautifully connected to the ocean, Table Mountain and the city we love.
And the location? Unbeatable.
The hotel has direct access into the V&A Waterfront, so you can literally step outside and find yourself surrounded by restaurants, shops, entertainment and everything the Waterfront has to offer. No car. No fuss. Just walk out and explore.
And the hotel itself…
The interiors have been completely transformed, with a much calmer, contemporary South African feel inspired by Cape Town’s natural surroundings.
There are now 306 guestrooms and 40 luxury suites, along with the exclusive Club InterContinental, SPA InterContinental, a 24-hour fitness studio and an elevated outdoor pool terrace.
But let’s talk about FOOD… because this was definitely one of my favourite parts of the experience.
Lunch at Flint & Fennel
We started our evening at Flint & Fennel, the hotel’s signature restaurant, and from the moment we arrived, the hospitality was incredible.
A special shoutout to Pammy, who gave us the warmest welcome, and our waiter Sardeequa, whose service was absolutely wonderful.
We started with a Martini and a Whisky Sour — because obviously!
Then came the food…
Chakalaka bread & maas bolletjie bread
Eikendal Rosé 2026
And for mains, we shared two dishes so we could try a little bit of everything.
Roasted Pork Belly
with anise carrot purée, balsamic-glazed heritage carrots and beetroot, apple gremolata and pork scratching.
Pit-Roasted Beef Brisket
with crispy rosemary potatoes, heirloom baby beets, beef biltong, mushroom duxelles and bordelaise sauce.
And let me tell you… that brisket!
I loved that the menu felt elevated but still celebrated familiar South African flavours. It was sophisticated without feeling overly complicated — exactly the kind of dining experience I enjoy.
Wellness
One thing I really appreciate about a hotel stay is having somewhere to switch off.
The hotel has a 24-hour gym, SPA InterContinental with six treatment rooms, and an elevated outdoor pool terrace.
Basically, you can work out, relax, swim, spa… and then go eat.
Sounds like my kind of itinerary!
And yes… there’s something for the kids too!
- For families, the Kids Club offers activities including:
- Arts & crafts
- Little Chef
- Fun & games
- Entertainment
Which means the little ones get their own holiday experience while parents can actually enjoy some downtime too.
And there’s MORE…
The hotel now has four distinct dining experiences:
- Flint & Fennel – all-day dining with beautiful views of the harbour and Table Mountain.
- Le Bistrot de JAN – a gorgeous French-inspired bistro with deep-blue velvet, chandeliers, live jazz and even a dedicated cheese room.
- The Botanist’s Table – a beautiful lobby lounge for coffee, cocktails, gin tastings and small plates.
- Solandra Pool Deck – a 500m² elevated outdoor space with a heated mineral pool, jacuzzi, drinks, salads and wood-fired pizzas.
- After seeing all four, I definitely need to go back and experience the rest!
And something else I loved…
The hotel has also placed a strong focus on sustainability and, in August 2026, became the first hotel in South Africa to receive a 5-Star Green Star Design rating under the Green Building Council South Africa’s new Version 2 tool.
My experience
What I loved most about this experience wasn’t just the beautiful interiors, the food, the views or the luxury.
It was how the hotel still feels connected to Cape Town.
You can wake up to Table Mountain, grab breakfast, walk straight into the Waterfront, shop and explore, come back for some pool time, enjoy a spa treatment, sip cocktails and have dinner overlooking the city… all without really having to go anywhere.
And sometimes, you really don’t need to travel far to feel like you’ve had a getaway.
I found a little bit of luxury right here in my own city.
