Pre-loved. Restored. Reimagined. Re-loved.
Vintage with Love, the non-profit organisation that raises funds for a network of literacy and education-focused charities across South Africa, has announced Johannesburg’s most meaningful furniture event.
Founded on the belief that pre-loved can be powerful, Vintage with Love has spent more than a decade turning donated and pre-loved clothing into funding for literacy and education initiatives across South Africa.
In 2023, that philosophy moved beyond the wardrobe and into the home with the launch of ‘Décor for a Difference’ at the Johannesburg Big Sale. Furniture Fest is the next chapter: a four day entire event that brings together a curated collection of quality pre-loved furniture that has been lovingly restored, reimagined and beautifully finished.
Hosted at Design Quarter from 15–18 October, with the theme “Where Home Meets Heart,“ the event is Vintage with Love’s first furniture-only sale, bringing beautiful interiors, conscious consumption and meaningful impact together under one roof.
This is not a traditional second-hand furniture sale,” explains Tracey Butler, Managing Director of Vintage with Love. “Furniture Fest is about seeing the potential in quality pieces and transforming them into beautiful, contemporary furniture for today’s homes. Each piece has been carefully selected for its potential, then restored, reimagined and given a new lease on life.” Many pieces in the collection have been expertly reupholstered in beautiful statement fabrics generously donated by Ardmore and other well-known fabric houses, adding a fresh, contemporary feel while celebrating the character and craftsmanship of the original furniture.
“In a world of fast consumption and throwaway culture, Furniture Fest challenges the idea that new is always better,” says Butler. “It’s about rethinking the value of what we already have. A quality piece of furniture can be restored, reimagined and re-loved rather than discarded, and in doing so, it can create an impact far beyond the home it eventually lives in.”
And there is another reason to fall in love with these pieces.
As with every Vintage with Love initiative, profits are donated to a network of literacy and education-focused charities across South Africa. So while a beautiful piece may find a new home, the impact of that purchase reaches much further and will help create opportunities and brighter futures through education.
Furniture Fest brings together design, craftsmanship, sustainability and purpose in a way that feels both considered and exciting. It is a celebration of beautiful things, thoughtful choices and the belief that what already exists can sometimes be even more special when it is given the chance to be loved again.
