New limited-edition packaging brings familiar South African moments to life, one chocolate block at a time.
Cadbury Dairy Milk, Mzansi’s number one chocolate brand, is bringing its globally celebrated Made To Share campaign to local shelves with a uniquely South African twist, inviting consumers to celebrate the everyday acts of generosity that often go unnoticed.
Rooted in Cadbury’s long-standing belief that generosity is at the heart of meaningful human connection, the campaign recognises that the most memorable acts of generosity are often the simplest. Rather than grand gestures, it’s the small, everyday contributions that help families, friends and communities come together.
To bring this idea to life, Cadbury Dairy Milk has introduced a range of limited-edition 80g and 150g slabs featuring redesigned packaging that reflects how each chocolate slab is made to share.
Each pack playfully divides the chocolate slab beneath, according to the roles people naturally assume in familiar South African moments.
The collection features 16 locally inspired scenarios that celebrate the humour and dynamics of everyday life. From family routines such as “who pays” versus “who remembers the loyalty card”versus “who pushes the trolley”, to parenting moments like “who puts the kids to bed” versus “who gives the ‘nice try’ look” versus “who falls asleep before the kids”, the packaging shines a light on the unsung heroes behind every shared experience.
South Africa’s rich social traditions also feature prominently, with scenarios including “who braais”versus “the pap and chakalaka maker” versus “who asks for seconds”, as well as “umqombothi maker” versus “umqombothi taster” versus “the aunt with the key to the cold room”. Each scenario has been designed to spark recognition, humour and conversation around the moments that define everyday life in Mzansi.
“Within every shared moment, there’s often someone whose contribution makes all the difference, even if it sometimes doesnt get the recognition it deserves,” says Simone Van Zyl, Chocolate Category Marketing Director for Mondelēz South Africa & Central East Africa.
Made To Share is about celebrating those everyday acts of generosity that bring people together. Whether it’s remembering the loyalty card, tending the braai or simply making everyone feel welcome, these are the moments that deserve recognition. We wanted to create a campaign that reflects authentic South African experiences and celebrates them with the humour, warmth and relatability that are uniquely Mzansi.
The limited-edition Made To Share range is rolling out nationwide across major retailers, transforming the chocolate aisle into a celebration of the people and moments that make sharing special.
More than simply a packaging redesign, the campaign encourages South Africans to pause, reflect and appreciate the sharing moments that play out daily in their own lives and, of course, share a slab of Cadbury Dairy Milk along the way.
Alongside the limited-edition packs, the campaign will be supported by an integrated marketing approach including mall activations in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban, as well as an engaging digital Slab Settler content experience that will help fans finally decide on who gets the biggest piece.
The brand is also offering consumers the chance to win* R20,000 in cash each week for the duration of the campaign, simply by purchasing a limited-edition Made To Share slab and following the entry mechanics on the POS material in-store (*T&C apply).
