The results of Winemag’s 10-Year-Old Wine Report for 2025 have reaffirmed the importance of consistency in producing premium quality wines. De Krans Wines’ Cape Vintage Reserve 2015 took top honours, scoring an impressive 96 points and being named the overall winner.
With a total of 98 entries received from 47 producers, this accolade confirms that older port-style wines are best enjoyed at their peak of ageing. The judging panel was chaired by Christian Eedes, who was joined by Wine Merchants CEO, James Pietersen as well as wine and hospitality specialist, Francois Rautenbach.
The De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve 2015 is a full-bodied wine with ripe dark fruit notes of plum, mulberry, and black currants. Comprising a blend of Touriga Nacional (73%), Tinta Roriz (25%), and Tinta Barocca (2%), the port-style wine was matured for 20 months in big vats. According to the panel, the palate is pure and poised with great depth of fruit and bright acidity, the spirit addition handled exceptionally well.
Its ageing potential, of up to 30 years, makes it the perfect investment port-style wine and a guaranteed safe choice for gifting someone special.
As wise person once said, ‘Any wine would love to be a port, if it only could.’
