A new wine tasting series with a charitable twist is coming to Sea Point this November, as Arthur’s Mini Super will host Pour Favor winetasting events in support of Ladles of Love.
Following the series of Good Table dinners hosted earlier this year, which raised over R50,000 for Ladles of Love, Pour Favor switches things up with a relaxed evening of local wine, good food and fundraising.
The first Pour Favor takes place at Arthur’s Mini Super on Tuesday, 3 November, bringing together three local winemakers for an informal tasting from 6pm until close.
For R250, guests will taste wines from three different estates, while Arthur’s Mini Super takes care of the food with platters of some of its favourite snacks, including cheesy Marmite toasties, mini boerie rolls, fried pickles, NikNaks and homemade Rice Krispie treats.
Confirmed for the first event are Mother Rock, Testalonga, and Intellego.
Take an uno momento to meet the winemakers:
Mother Rock
Mother Rock is the project of winemaker Johan Meyer, known for producing characterful, minimal-intervention wines that reflect their Swartland origins. Working with sustainably farmed vineyards and a light touch in the cellar, Mother Rock has built a following for wines that are expressive, approachable and distinctly South African.
Testalonga
Founded by Craig and Carla Hawkins, Testalonga has become one of the best-known names in South Africa’s new-wave wine movement. Based in the Swartland, the winery is known for pushing boundaries through naturally made wines, unusual varieties and an experimental approach that has helped introduce a new generation of drinkers to South African wine.
Intellego Wines
Founded by owner and winemaker Jurgen Gouws, Intellego is a small Swartland producer based in the Paardeberg. Gouws takes a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking, working with select vineyards across the region and focusing on organic farming practices and healthy soils. His characterful wines are made without commercial yeasts or fermentation aids, with experimentation and a strong sense of place at the heart of the Intellego philosophy.
Proceeds from the evening will support Ladles of Love, helping the organisation continue its work tackling food insecurity and supporting communities across Cape Town and beyond.
