Baked feta and tomato penne pasta
Creamy, fast, and delicious, this is a tasty twist on the famous TikTok pasta. Made using Rhodes Quality Tomato Italian Style.
| Ingredients (serves 4) | Method |
| · 1x 400 g can of Rhodes Quality Tomato Italian Style· 120 g (2 rounds) feta cheese2 garlic cloves, crushedsalt and freshly cracked black pepper200 g (1 cup) penne pasta65 ml (¼ cup) fresh basil leaves, chopped | Pour the can of Rhodes Quality Tomatoes Italian Style into a casserole dish. Add the garlic and stir. Place the feta rounds on top of the Rhodes Quality tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Bake in an oven preheated to 190°C for 30 minutes or until the feta cheese melts and browns. While the tomatoes and feta are baking, cook the pasta in a saucepan of salted water according to package instructions. Drain and reserve 125 ml (½ cup) of the cooking water. Remove the tomatoes and feta from the oven. Stir well to combine the feta and the tomatoes into a creamy sauce. Stir in the cooked pasta, adding enough of the reserved cooking water to soften the sauce if desired. Season to taste. Stir in the basil and serve. |
Tomato relish braai broodjies
No South African braai is complete without the original South African toasties: braai broodjies, conveniently made with Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai relish. Crisp and crunchy on the outside – gooey and cheesy on the inside. For a truly winter meal, serve these with one of the delectable soup recipes below.
| Ingredients (serves 4) | Method |
| ● 125 ml (½ C) Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai Relish● 8 slices white bread● butter for spreading● 30 ml (2 T) chutney● 250 ml (1 C) grated cheddar cheese● salt and black pepper | Butter the bread on 1 side and place buttered side down on a chopping board. Mix the Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai Relish with the chutney. Spread a generous layer of the braai relish on the un-buttered side of 4 slices of bread.Top with the cheese, season well, then cover with the 4 remaining slices of bread, with the buttered side on the outside.Place the sandwiches inside a braai grid and slowly toast them over warm coals until golden brown.Serve while still warm. |
Black bean soup with smoked sausage
Spicy, fragrant, and comforting this black bean soup easily made with Rhodes Quality Black Beans will help cut through the chill of winter nights.

| ● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Chopped Tomatoes● 2 x 400 g cans Rhodes Quality Black Beans, drained and rinsed● 15 ml (1 Tbsp.) Sunflower oil● 100g Smoked sausage, sliced● 1 Onion, chopped● 1 Red pepper, seeded and chopped● 2 Garlic cloves, crushed● 10 ml (2 tsp.) ground cumin● 5 ml (1 tsp.) Dried oregano● 1 lt. (4 cups) chicken stock● Salt and freshly cracked black pepperTo serve: Garnish with sour cream and chopped parsley and serve with tortilla chips. Try this recipe with some chorizo sausage for more spice. | Heat the oil in a medium saucepan. Fry the sausage slices to brown on both sides. Remove from the saucepan and set aside.Add onion and red pepper to the pan and fry until softened. Add the garlic and fry for a few minutes more. Add the cumin and oregano.Add the can of Rhodes Quality Chopped Tomatoes, chicken stock and the Rhodes Quality Black Beans and bring the soup to the boil.Remove half of the soup from the pan and puree to smooth.Return the pureed soup and the sausage to the saucepan and heat through. Season to taste. |
Chakalaka cabbage and white bean soup
This is an economical and nutritious soup that can be prepared in under 30 minutes with Rhodes Quality Mild and Spicy Chakalaka.

| ● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Tomatoes Chopped and Peeled● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Mild and Spicy Chakalaka● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Butter Beans, drained● 30 ml (2 Tbsp.) Sunflower oil● 1 Onion, finely chopped● 3 Carrots, peeled and finely chopped● 3 Sticks of celery, finely chopped● 3 Garlic cloves, crushed● 1 lt. (4 cups) prepared vegetable stock● 1/2 Small green cabbage, shredded● Salt and freshly ground black pepperTo serve: hot with fresh crusty bread | Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onion, carrots and celery and cook until the vegetables have softened.Add the can of Rhodes Quality Tomato Chopped and Peeled and the Rhodes Quality Mild and Spicy Chakalaka.Add the vegetable stock and bay leaves.Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.Add the cabbage and the drained Rhodes Quality Butter Beans and simmer for a few minutes more until the cabbage is wilted.Season to taste with salt and pepper. |
Curried chickpea soup
Soup is one of the easiest and most reliable dishes to freeze. Make two batches of this delicious soup and freeze one for a quick midweek winter dinner dish. This dish is made with Rhodes Quality Tomato Indian Style, perfectly blended spices for your convenience.

| ● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Tomato Indian Style● 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Chickpeas, drained● 15 ml (1 T) butter● 15 ml (1 T) sunflower oil● 1 medium brown onion, chopped● 1 clove garlic, crushed● 2 carrots, chopped● 500 ml (2 C) prepared chicken stock● salt● 125 ml (½ C) plain yoghurt or creamTo serve: stir in the yoghurt or cream and top with the coriander leaves. | Heat the butter and oil in a large saucepan and fry the onion, garlic, and carrots for 5 minutes or until the onion begins to soften.Add the can of Rhodes Quality Tomato Indian Style and the chicken stock and bring to the boil.Add the Rhodes Quality Chickpeas.Lower the heat to medium and simmer the soup for 15 minutes until the vegetables are cooked and soft.Puree the soup using a food processor or blender until smooth. |
Boerewors and Egg Breakfast Wrap
Jump aboard the folded wrap trend. This is a perfect recipe to use leftover braai boerewors to create this delicious breakfast wrap. Made with delicious Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai Relish.
| Ingredients (serves 4-6) | Method |
| 1 x 400 g can Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai Relish6 eggssalt and freshly cracked black pepper15 ml (1 Tbsp) butter4 wraps250 g braaied boerewors, sliced and reheated1 avocado, peeled, mashed, and seasoned120 g grated cheddar cheese | Break the eggs into a large bowl and whisk well.Season with salt and pepper.Heat the butter in a non-stick frying pan and soft scramble the eggs. Make one slice through each wrap from the middle to the outer edge.Place scrambled egg on the first quarter of the wrap. On the second quarter place spoonful’s of Rhodes Quality Tomato Braai Relish. In the third quarter place the seasoned avocado.On the final quarter place, the boerewors and sprinkle with the cheese.Fold the first quarter over the second one.Fold the second quarter over the third quarter.Finish off folding the last quarter to make a triangle.Toast the wraps, on both sides, in a clean saucepan which has been sprayed with non-stick spray until the cheese has melted.Serve immediately |
