After a successful run in May of this year, ArtsUnite will return to Roxy Revue Bar at GrandWest from 13 October to 27 November 2021, proudly brought to you by GrandWest and Brukman Consulting.
“This project has organically taken life and added to the need for artists to work and perform their talent on a stage, the next two months see popular artists from the first run but also fresh NEW talent yearning to have their voices heard and to be celebrated”, says Bridgette Brukman.
Roxy’s has a capacity of 160 but this will be reduced by 50% to comply with Covid-19 regulations.

WEEK TWO 13 to 16 October
SEVE MUSICKID
Wednesday 13 October
Seve MusicKid is from Grassy Park and entered the music industry at the age of seven. Seve believes his journey started at church and that’s where his passion for music and gospel music started. Seve has had the opportunity to perform with some of the great artists in the music industry, like Jonathan Butler, Jimmy Nevis, Chad Saaiman, Ernie Smith, Vicky Sampson, Loukmaan Adams, Loyiso Bala, Lloyd Cele, and Cedric Samson to name a few.
ELWIRA STANDILI
Friday 15 October
Singer Elwira grew up in Worcester on a chicken farm. After completing school, she studied management assistance, but then made the top nine of Idols SA. Her singing journey started at home with her musical family who all play instruments and can sing. She was 14 years old when she first sang in front of people at a concert.
CRUSHANDA FORBES
Saturday 16 October
Crushanda Forbes was a Top 3 finalist in Idols SA in 2011. She has previously performed with Emo Adams on his debut album Tall Dark Afrikaans. Previously she worked on MSC Cruise ships and did a stint in Spain. She was part of the KKNK, Huisgenoot Skouspel and performed in Namibia for Absa Bank’s annual event.

GEMMA FASSIE
Wednesday 20 October
Gemma Fassie grew up in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town and is a singer-songwriter. Last year, she debuted her contemporary R&B project, “After Hours”. From the age of six, she was asked to sing at local fashion shows, but also comes from a very musical family. Since there was always exposure to different music genres and styles, it helped to ignite her passion for music and to shape her sound from Jazz to R&B, and even Hip Hop. Fassie took a short hiatus to complete her studies which resulted in her honing in on her craft since she dropped singles “Best Life” and “All I Need”.
SALOME
Friday and Saturday 22 and 23 October
Mitchell’s plain diva, Salome Johansen, said turning 40 was a positive thing, especially as she celebrates 10 years of being clean from her addition to tik. Salome grew up listening to 90s international club divas Sybil and Robin S and they have influenced her music. In 2020 she was to have performed on stage with them but this dream was unfortunately upended by the Covid-19 pandemic.

NUR ABRAHAMS

Nur Abrahams has been singing since the age of six and has been a member of successful music groups Limited Edition and JAG. The talented musician has contributed to many hit shows in Cape Town, and this year brings us his second solo production, It’s My Time. He has embarked on a new journey to showcase his amazing vocal talent. He received the Baxter Theatre’s Young Inspiring Artist of the Year Award in 2012 and has performed in a host of successful shows, including District 6 The Musical, Vocal Is Lekka, Radio Classics, Slick Swing, Scrooge, Music Alla Kaap (sharing the stage with the late Zayn Adam and Percy Sledge), Vocal Mania, Divos, Remembering the Lux, Kaapse Jol and I am Music.
CRAIG LUCAS
Friday 29 October
Craig Lucas rose to fame after winning the second season of The Voice South Africa in 2017 with Khan Morbee as his coach. The singer-songwriter from Elsies River was an economics and politics graduate from UCT before his success in the competition set out his new career. His debut album entitled Restless was released in 2017, featuring hits ‘I Said This’ and ‘Smother’. The album received a SAMA nomination in 2018 for Best Pop Album and in 2019 Lucas released his second album, Anti-Sociable.
FAGRIE ISAACS
Saturday 30 October
Fagrie Isaacs vocal talent was first discovered in the choir at Strandfontein Primary. His popularity grew once he became the lead singer of The Boys, Cape Town’s first ever boy band. After his first solo recording – Wonderlike Liefde van ‘n Ma written by Afrikaans musician Mynie Grove – became a hit he became known as a gifted singer in the Cape Malay Choir scene. Since then Isaacs has gone on to win many choir prizes. His first venture into the Kaapse Klopse was with the Seawinds team, and he received five consecutive first prize wins with the Juvie Boys. Fagrie counts artists like Boys2Men and the Manhattans as his musical influences.
WEEK FIVE 03 TO 06 November
SETH GRAY
Wednesday 03 November
Seth Grey, a young musician hailing from Somerset West. He grew up in a musical home and has been singing for as long as he can remember. From a young age, Seth has undergone musical training to hone his undeniable natural talent – even going so far as to complete a year of operatic training, which has further diversified his abilities. Since graduating from the Cape Music Institute in 2018, he has worked on many live productions as a backing vocalist for local artists such as Craig Lucas and Jimmy Nevis and, most recently, international artist Tevin Campbell on his Southern African tour.
MAXINE WILD
Friday 05 November
A woman who needs no introduction, Maxine Wild is known for her work as one of Cape Town’s finest Cabaret/Drag performers. She is a Make-up artist by profession and has worked with several of SA’s A-listers. Her title as Miss Gay Western Cape has brought her great exposure and experience and she is the first Transgender female to have represent the organization of all time.
VUVU KUMALO
Saturday 06 November
Cape Town Diva Vuvu Kumalo, also known as the Queen of Disco, enjoys doing tributes to her favourite divas. Her powerful, soulful voice is perfect for covering songs from her favourite artist, Tina Turner. “I’m a Tina Turner kinda girl. My shows are also based around my crush on Tina Turner.” She once shared a stage with R&B and pop singer, Sybil, and toured Spain with tribute shows for Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner and Bettie Wright. Local artists she has worked alongside The Voice season 2 winner Craig Lucas, SA Idols winner Paxton, Salome, Karin Kortje, Sasha-Lee, Jody Williams, Crushanda Forbes, Chad Saaiman and Loukmaan Adams.

JODI FREDERICKS
Wednesday 10 November
Jodi Fredericks is a versatile and vibrant vocalist and song writer whose heart and sound resonates in contemporary modern jazz and neo soul. She completed her BMus Jazz Studies Degree at the
Prestigious South African College of Music, UCT. Jodi has performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival on three occasions. She performed at the Green Market Square Free Concert as a
member of the Allstar Band in 2014, lead The Sekunjalo Edujazz Big Band in 2018 and backed DonVino Prins in 2019.
MADEEGHA ANDERS
Friday 12 November
Madeegha Anders from Athlone started her performing career as a young child when she couldn’t stop singing every song that was on the radio. She exploited her talents in school concerts and the odd stage show on the Cape Flats. Today she runs events companies and is much in demand as a solo entertainer and has also started performing with her son, Ashur, who is also a gifted performer.

WEEK SEVEN 17 to 20 November
CRAIG JORDAAN
Wednesday 17 November
Craig Jordaan is a sensational young vocalist from Elsies River. At the age of four, he knew that he wanted to become a singer. He was in grade four when he performed in front of an audience for the first time – like so many of the great vocalists of all times it was at church. He sang Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All”. When he went to Elsies River High School he immediately joined the Echo Band. Echo stands for Elsies River Community of Hope and Opportunities. They did jazz festivals, the TV program Hectic Nine 9 and participated in the popular High School Jam competition, where Craig won Best Male Vocalist in 2014 and 2016.
PJ TWINS
Friday and Saturday 19 and 20 November
The PJ Twins Peter and John grew up in Bonteheuwel but are now known throughout the city for their hit song ‘Twinzpin’. They were able to avoid the gangsterism that plagues the area by devoting themselves to music. They remain committed to unlifting the community in the area and use their fame to regularly hold free concerts and conduct education and anti-drug campaigns.

Candice Thornton
Wednesday 24 November
Soulful 26-year old singer and songwriter Candice Thornton’s talent was recognised by her musician father at the age of three. Her talent was developed and mentored by celebrated vocalists Melanie Scholtz and Heinrich Frans, which lead to her studying and receiving a diploma in vocals and music business at the Cape Music Institute. With a voice described by many as “velvety” Candice’s smooth, warm and sultry tone has been winning over the masses since her performances at the Artscape Youth Jazz Festival in 2008 and her winning the Heart 104.9FM Open Mic Jazz Competition in 2012.
August West
Friday 26 November
August West grew up in Elsies River, Matroosfontein, and started his music journey in church.
One of his first big performances was at Elsies River High School’s Talent show. August has worked with talented artists such as David Kramer, Emo Adams, Loukmaan Adams, Youngsta, Early B, Jonathan Rubain, Zane Meas, Theodore Jantjies, June van Merch, Marc Lottering, Tarryn Lamb and the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.
ROBIN PIETERS

Professionally trained vocalist Robin Pieters has performed on big stages with international stars such as Tevin Campbell, Tamia, Robin S, Cece Peniston, Sybil, Peaches & Herb and All 4 One. Locally, Pieters has performed alongside many South African artists such as Lira, Kurt Darren, Loyiso Bala, AKA, Black Coffee, Emo Adams amongst many others. Robin’s work reflects the inspiration he finds in past experiences, day to day life, words and people that inspire his foundation in spirituality, the power of positive thinking, the drive to achieve and the belief that nothing is impossible.
