Caring Table Bay Hotel staff give back to the community
Staff at Sun International’s five-star Table Bay Hotel nominated schools in need within their communities and Cypress Primary in Bridgetown and Inkanini Primary in Khayelitsha received a total of 143 pairs of shoes for less fortunate learners.
“Education is one of our key socio-economic development focus areas and we contribute to uplifting a number of schools in Cape Town each year through various initiatives,” said The Table Bay General Manager, Joanne Selby.
“As a person who grew up in rural areas, I believe that there is no greater experience than to wear a brand-new pair of shoes,” said Asanda Maku, Waitron at Table Bay Hotel. “Many of the underprivileged children at Inkanini wear broken school shoes or other shoes, and for some, it will be their very first pair of new shoes, restoring their hope, confidence and dignity.”
Cyprus Primary is a no-fee school and learners come from poor households which depend on government grants for survival.
“It was an emotional experience for all of us, as we witnessed firsthand how many children came to school either barefoot or in flip-flops,” said Table Bay HR Manager, Simonay Tala of the handover, which took place shortly before schools closed for the holiday period.
