The recipe book, Clover Mama Afrika’s Manna was released in December 2022, as a beautiful tribute to the amazing women of the project. The cookbook is a collection of treasured, traditional South African recipes from the Mama Afrikas themselves. This special book was created for all the Mama Afrikas, with the purpose of sharing their lovely recipes with each other, and to honour these incredible women who passionately care for their communities.
The name of the cookbook, ‘manna’ was given with the Mama Afrikas in mind; manna refers to spiritual or divine nourishment. It is widely accepted that these women are the primary caregivers in many communities. To those in their care, Mama Afrikas are a godsend, and their valuable contributions and involvement are like Manna from heaven to the community. It refers to manna for sustenance through the transfer of income-generating skills, and it’s manna for the soul because those empowered by the Mama Afrikas regain a sense of pride, dignity and self-respect as active members of the community.
To celebrate our South African heritage, we share the love by sharing their delicious ‘manna’ recipes with the country.

A little bit about Mama Kedibone
This exemplary Clover Mama started her Centre in 2006 to provide a safe and loving space for abused, neglected and orphaned children, ranging in age from pre-school to Grade 12.
Mama Kedibone gives the children in her care access to education and uses her own skills and training to further educate children of school-going age. Her qualifications include secretarial training, computer skills, business communication and office administration. She has been awarded ‘The Doctrine in Community Development’, has qualified in childcare at HWSETA, and has completed the child protection skills development programme with JHB Child Welfare.
Mama Kedibone manages 15 employees and 11 volunteers who assist with the enormous task of taking care of 118 children, 97 elderly people, as well as 143 community members who rely on her outreach programme.
The orphanage is the largest in the area, and the 14 rooms are always kept spotless. The children are taught to value and take pride in their belongings, which helps add structure to their lives.
Her food garden, which won the Agri-Business and Young Farmer of the Year Award in 2013 for Best Homestead Food Garden, indulges the members of the Centre by providing bounty from the orchard. Mama Kedibone’s bakery and sewing project are also running smoothly, and continuous training is provided to her members.
