One of the most powerful shifts happening within the spa industry is the move towards inclusion—both in how we treat clients and how we lead our teams.
In the treatment room, inclusion means inviting the client into the process. Rather than delivering a silent, one-directional experience, the therapist engages the client in a conversation of awareness. Simple questions such as “What are you noticing?” or “Where do you feel more space?” encourage the client to connect with their body.
This transforms the treatment into a shared experience.
As clients begin to feel changes within themselves, they develop a deeper sense of body awareness. This awareness is powerful, because once something is felt, it cannot be unfelt. It becomes a reference point for healing—a foundation for what is often described as somatic awareness.
This approach also builds trust and confidence. The client is no longer passive, but actively involved in their own wellbeing.
The same principle applies within teams.
For spa owners and managers, inclusion is not just a leadership style—it is a strategy for long-term success. When therapists are invited to share their thoughts, ideas, and observations, they feel valued. When they feel valued, they take ownership of their work.
Asking questions such as “What would you change?” or “How could this be improved?” opens the door for innovation. It allows those working closest to the client experience to contribute meaningfully to its evolution.
This creates a culture of accountability, creativity, and mutual respect.
Inclusion fosters connection. Connection fosters care. And care is what defines exceptional service.
The future of the spa industry is not built on hierarchy, but on collaboration.
You do not need a larger team to grow.
You need a more connected one.
About Belinda Spratt
Throughout my professional journey, I have deliberately chosen experiences that challenge me, expand my perspective, and deepen my understanding of people and places.
Travel was never just about seeing the world; it was about stepping beyond familiar borders and embracing environments that teach, inspire, and sometimes stretch me out of comfort.
I have fallen, dusted myself off and continued to learn.
These experiences have shaped the way I approach my work. I have learned to notice subtle cues, appreciate diverse perspectives, and create spaces where others feel seen, safe, and understood. My professional practice is informed not just by technical skill, but by the insight gained from navigating new cultures, environments, and human stories.
Every choice — every trip, every work environment — has refined my ability to connect, adapt, and bring depth, empathy, and intuition into the work I do today.
My line of work and travel has given me a relatable quality. Being more human is what I strive for every day.
I welcome the opportunity to connect with you.
